August calls for service our dedicated firefighters responded to. In addition to more than 2,000 calls for service within Butte County, we assisted other agencies throughout August, sending equipment and personnel to help out all over California and even out of state as we had multiple first responders assigned to fires in Oregon and Washington for most of the month.

Despite the resources dedicated to incidents far and wide, we always maintain full staffing of all our fire stations and remain vigilant and ready to respond to all incidents within Butte County.

At scene of a vegetation fire off Bunker Hill Mine Road in Concow. Approximately one acre. Forward spread is stopped. Access was difficult due to the terrain, and ground crews will remain at scene mopping up for 4-5 hours.

Last week, our City of Oroville Firefighters responded to a different call for service - a bird stuck in a tree. Normally we just let birds 🦅 perch and do their businesses, but this was an exotic beloved pet that had been stuck for many days. With a little coaxing from the owner, and a few squirts of water from our guys, the bird was safely extracted and reunited with his father. Great job OFD!!!

Incredible work yesterday by CAL FIRE personnel from the Berry Creek Fire Station and Table Mountain Fire Crew 2, who assisted the Butte County Sheriff's Office in a challenging rescue operation.

Engine 2168, from the Berry Creek Fire Station, responded to a missing person call that quickly became a complex operation. After arriving at scene and coordinating with BCSO, it was clear that specialized hand crew support was needed to reach the victim through nearly 900 feet of heavy brush, burn scar, snags, and extremely limited access.

Table Mountain Crew 2 immediately stepped up. When the patient’s status changed during the response, they pushed even harder—cutting a path with four chainsaws through difficult terrain and reducing rescue time by nearly one third. Upon reaching the patient, Crew 2 used their medical gear and crew carrying device to extract the patient back up to the top of the hill.

During the after-action review, multiple agencies expressed strong appreciation for the crew’s speed, skill, and professionalism.

Outstanding work by everyone involved. Their dedication and teamwork made a critical difference in the patient's outcome.
