Schools in Orting are back in session starting September 1st.

In the City of Orting, all school zones are clearly marked by flashing beacons when active and the speed limit is 20 miles-per-hour. Active times are:

Monday - Thursday: 7:00 am - 9:15 am and 2:10 pm - 4:15 pm.
Friday: 7:00 am - 9:15 am and 12:40 pm - 2:45 pm.

School zones are not active on weekends, holidays, or days when school is not in session (spring break, summer break, etc.)

If school zone beacons are not flashing, the zone is not active ,and normal speed limits apply. Please slow down and drive safely.

Orting Weather Alert.

Headline: Fire Weather Watch issued August 13 at 11:23AM PDT until August 14 at 9:00PM PDT by NWS Seattle WA

Description: The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Fire Weather
Watch for lightning and gusty outflow winds, which is in effect
from Friday afternoon through Friday evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 652 West Portion of the
Olympic Mountains, Fire Weather Zone 658 West Slopes of the
North Cascades Generally above 1500 Feet, Fire Weather Zone
659 West Slopes of the Central Cascades Generally above 1500
Feet and Fire Weather Zone 661 East Portion of the Olympic
Mountains.

* LIGHTNING...Isolated to scattered thunderstorm coverage is
possible across the Cascades and Olympics.

* OUTFLOW WINDS...Any storms that develop will be capable of
gusty and erratic outflow winds between 20 and 30 miles per
hour. Outflow winds can occur ahead of and behind storms and
cause erratic wind directions.

* IMPACTS...Scattered lightning in dry fuels can cause multiple
fire starts. Thunderstorms can also bring sudden sharp wind
shifts on existing fires, causing rapid changes in a fire's
rate of spread and direction of spread. Thunderstorm outflow
winds can be a threat for several hours following the start of
a new lightning-caused fire. If a fire were to begin, air
quality may diminish in the surrounding area.


Instruction: A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either imminent or occurring now. Any fires that develop will
likely spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Fire Weather Watch means that there is a potential for critical
fire weather conditions to develop. Monitor the forecasts for
possible Red Flag Warnings.

Outdoor Warning System Test.

From City of Orting Alerts:

Good morning,

A monthly test of the Outdoor Lahar Evacuation Warning System will occur today at noon. During the test, chimes and/or voice instructions may be broadcast from various siren locations throughout the Orting valley. Please do not call 911. This test occurs on the first Monday of every month at noon.

Please note: In the event of an actual emergency, the chimes played during siren testing will be replaced by a long-running siren with a continuous wail.

🚔 *** Police Training Notice ***🚔

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, and Thursday, July 30, 2026, the Orting Police Department, along with partner law enforcement agencies, will be conducting scheduled training exercises at Orting Elementary School.

During these training sessions, community members may notice police vehicles, flashing emergency lights, and officers in and around the school campus. There is no emergency and no cause for concern. These exercises are planned in advance and are an important part of ensuring our officers remain well-trained and prepared to respond effectively to emergencies.

Southwest Interior Lowlands and Fire Weather Zone 659 West
Slopes of the Central Cascades Generally above 1500 Feet.

* LIGHTNING...Isolated to scattered thunderstorm coverage is
possible across the southern Cascade Mountains and portions of
southwest Washington. Thunderstorms will develop late Wednesday
night and move from south to north across the area.

* OUTFLOW WINDS...Any storms that develop will be capable of gusty
and erratic outflow winds between 25 and 30 miles per hour.
Outflow winds can occur ahead of and behind storms and cause
erratic wind directions.

* IMPACTS...Scattered lightning in dry fuels can cause multiple

HEAT ADVISORY.
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM ORTING ALERTS REGARDING HEAT - A HEAT ADVISORY has been issued by the National Weather Service for western Washington until 11pm July 22nd. Extremely dangerous heat conditions are likely, possibly leading to heat related illness, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. AVOID ANY PROLONGED outdoor physical activity during the hottest part of the day. AVOID direct sun exposure or make sure you take breaks in the shade. DRINK plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and provide water and shade to pets. DO NOT leave pets or children unattended in motor vehicles.
