Today is National SRO Appreciation Day. We would like to recognize Orwell Village Police Officer David Rowland and commend him for his dedication to protecting the students and staff of the Grand Valley Local Schools.

The Orwell Police Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for full time patrol officers. Applicant Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• High School Diploma / G.E.D equivalent.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License
• Valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate and current with commission.

We offer competitive health insurance coverage including dental, vision and supplemental life as well as regular training opportunities and yearly uniform allowance. Starting wage for Officers with prior experience is $22.21 per hour with a five year wage step.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is mourning the loss of Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton, of the Canfield Post, after he died as a result of being hit while in his cruiser by a semi-truck on state Route 11 south of U.S. 224 in Canfield, Ohio. Trooper Cayton was assisting a disabled commercial vehicle at the time of the crash.
“Today, the Patrol lost a member of our family. This is a tragedy for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Public Safety”, said Colonel Charles A. Jones, Patrol Superintendent. “Our prayers go out to the Cayton family during this difficult time.”
