Big things are happening for public safety in the Village of Orwell.

Under the leadership of Fire Chief Gregory, the Village is in the process of acquiring a new ladder truck to strengthen our emergency response capabilities. The truck is currently undergoing retrofitting to meet Orwell’s specific operational needs and will proudly feature the Village’s branding once complete.

This investment reflects our continued commitment to protecting residents, supporting our firefighters with the right equipment, and ensuring we are prepared to respond when our community needs us most.

🚧 Traffic Advisory – State Route 322 Near Easton Road 🚧

Village personnel are currently on-site repairing a water line break on State Route 322 near Easton Road.

Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid the area if possible. If travel through this location is necessary, please proceed with extreme caution to ensure the safety of our crews working along the roadway.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to resolve the issue safely and efficiently.

Great things are already happening in Orwell!

Director of Public Service Shane Gregory and Village Manager Dr. Ratican snapped this photo while reviewing the final stages of the new salt dome project. Completing this project means full compliance with the latest OEPA regulations and increased salt storage capacity—allowing the Village to better prepare for winter weather and serve our residents more efficiently.

And we’re not slowing down! As the salt dome wraps up, pre-construction planning is already underway for the new Streets Facility. This important project will prioritize staff health and safety, improve daily operations, and enhance the quality of service provided to the community. It will also provide secure backup storage for the Police Department to help extend the life of Village vehicles.

Step by step, project by project—we’re building a stronger, safer, and more prepared Orwell.

We had a special guest at Village Hall! Max joined his dad, Village Manager Ratican, for Bring Your Kid to Work Day and got a firsthand look at the great things happening in Orwell—from the Fire Department to ongoing improvements around town. It’s never too early to learn the value of community service!

Temperatures may be creeping up as we head into the weekend, but the cold is still holding strong. Please continue to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and stay indoors unless necessary. The Village Manager plans to follow this advice with a hot cup of chocolate and some cool jazz. We encourage everyone to do the same!

A huge thank you to J. Miller Snowplowing and Landscaping for heading out during this week’s storm to plow numerous local driveways at no cost. Partnering with our own Council President, Chris Ruks, they helped ensure safe access for neighbors who needed it most. Thank you both for donating your time, vehicles, and fuel to make Orwell safe!
