Yesterday had the pleasure to meet with Mr. Fred Tipton of Tipton Environmental International, Inc. Who has a history of excellence in the manufacturing of equipment and systems for the Packaged Wastewater Treatment Industry. We have over three decades of engineering, design, and technical service in the wastewater treatment field. During this period of time, they have designed and manufactured over 10,000 packaged-style wastewater treatment systems and shipped them throughout the world. These systems range in relative size from 3,000 gallons per day (10 homes) to 480,000 gallons per day (1,200 homes).

Tipton Environmental constructed the Sunrise Beach Waste Water Treatment Facility.

The assessing Laboratory Certification Officer (LCO) has determined that this laboratory continues to produce data of acceptable and defensible quality that meet EPA’s requirements for microbiological analyses of drinking water. The LCO recommends that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) extend the certification for all the analyses and approved methods listed above.

The LCO recommends the MDNR certify this laboratory with Fully Certified status for the next three year period.

The laboratory staff is to be commended on their dedication to excellence as was made evident by their quality control procedures, record maintenance and technical skills.

Since no deviations were noted during the evaluation, a written response to this evaluation report is not required. This Certification Officer recommends full certification status be awarded to the laboratory.

On May 12, 2014 LOWA with the help of the Department of Natural Resources is finishing a five-year E.coli and nutrient cove study at the Lake.

LOE will be performing lab work on samples taken by LOWA volunteers.

This will be a 22 week study from May 12 to October 20.

The first half revealed the Lake is healthy, but it is adversely impacted by storm water runoff. Fish need nutrients that are naturally in the Lake, but when humans dump excessive amounts of nutrients into the Lake, it upsets the natural balance and can threaten the fish's environment.

In 2010, the State of Missouri Clean Water Commission listed the Niangua Arm of the Lake as impaired for excessive phosphorus levels; the Osage Arm was on the Environmental Protection Agency's 303.d List of Impaired Waters for excessive nitrogen.
