There is quiet power in standing still.

We spend so much of our lives rushing from one thing to the next, always looking for the "new." This past year, I decided to look at this "old" oak each month.

I realized that the tree doesn't strive to change; it simply allows the seasons to move through it. It doesn't fight the winter or hurry the spring. It yields to the ice, then opens to the sun. It reminds me that there is a time to be bare and a time to bloom, and both are necessary.

May we all find a bit of this tree’s rootedness in our own lives this year.
