Please join us in congratulating Don and Marylou Ahrens as the 2026 Mitchell County 4-H Hall of Fame inductees!💚
Don and Marylou were inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame on Sunday, August 23 at the Iowa State Fair. We appreciate everything they have done for the Mitchell County 4-H Program!
"For three generations, Don and Marylou have made 4-H a cornerstone of their family’s life. Both joined 4-H at age 10, and their children and grandchildren have proudly continued the tradition. Over the past 75 years, they have witnessed countless 4-H projects pass through their home and farm gate.
Throughout their involvement, Don and Marylou have emphasized citizenship and leadership – helping build future leaders and solid citizens for our communities and state.
They have served as leaders of three clubs, one of which they founded and remains active today. Today, they continue supporting the club by writing grants and assisting with community service projects, including maintaining 13 flower boxes along Osage’s Main Street and helping members wrap more than 1,200 gifts annually for the Miracle Tree.
Beyond the club level, Don and Marylou have served on the County 4-H & Youth Council, Mitchell County Extension Council, and Iowa State Extension Citizens Advisory Committee. They have also volunteered as judges for State Fair exhibits, achievement shows, and record books.
Even while balancing careers, farming, and a seed business, they always made time for 4-H. Reflecting on their decades of service, they shared, “It is with pride that we have watched past 4-H members grow in their leadership or citizenship skills to become contributing members of their communities, state, and nation.” Their dedication has shaped generations of youth and created a lasting legacy in Mitchell County 4-H.
