A big thank you to Deputy Noah Friese for providing our Correctional Officers with a very informative and well-taught Defensive Tactics (DT) class!

Hands-on training like this is an important part of keeping our officers prepared, confident, and safe while performing their duties. We truly appreciate Deputy Noah Friese taking the time to share his knowledge and experience with our team!

🚍 AREA SCHOOLS ARE BACK! 🚍

As area schools return to session, school buses and students will once again be on our roads each morning and afternoon.

Please help us keep our kids safe:

🛑 Stop for school buses when the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
⚠️ Slow down and stay alert in school zones and around bus stops.
👀 Watch for children who may be walking to and from the bus.
🚗 Give school buses plenty of space and be patient as they make frequent stops.

A few extra seconds of patience and attention can make a huge difference.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of the area and is in effect until 10:00 PM CDT tonight, Tuesday, August 18.

🚨 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING 🚨

The National Weather Service in La Crosse has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Mitchell County until 2:45 PM CDT.

⚠️ At 1:48 PM, severe thunderstorms were moving east at 35 mph.

Expected Hazards:
🌬️ Wind gusts up to 60 mph
🧊 Quarter-size hail
🌧️ Torrential rainfall that could lead to localized flash flooding

Potential Impacts:
• Damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines
• Hail damage to vehicles
• Reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions

⛈️ Take shelter immediately in a sturdy building and stay away from windows. If you encounter flooded roadways, Turn Around, Don't Drown. Never drive through water covering a roadway.

Stay weather aware and continue to monitor trusted weather sources for updates. We will share additional information as it becomes available.
