Today we had the privilege of recognizing one of our own.

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Chief Lance Kerr on being honored as the Kansas Firefighter of the Year by the American Legion.

This award recognizes outstanding selfless service above and beyond normal duties through community service and professional achievement, exemplifying what it truly means to be America’s Bravest.

For more than 16 years, Deputy Chief Kerr has served the Osawatomie Volunteer Fire Department with unwavering dedication, professionalism, and compassion. Whether responding to emergencies, mentoring firefighters, training the next generation, or serving our community behind the scenes, Lance consistently leads with humility and a servant’s heart.

This recognition reflects not only his commitment to the fire service but also the positive impact he has made on countless lives throughout our community.

Congratulations, Deputy Chief Kerr! Your OZFD family is incredibly proud of you, and this honor is well deserved. Thank you for your continued dedication to the citizens of Osawatomie and to the fire service.

At approximately 0600 hours this morning, crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the 300 block of Pacific.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an approximately 10x12 shed fully engulfed, with the fire threatening nearby structures. Crews quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack and were able to contain the fire, limiting damage to surrounding structures.

We would like to thank the City of Paola Fire Department for their mutual aid assistance and continued partnership. We appreciate their support and teamwork in helping bring this incident to a successful outcome.

Jack currently serves in the Kansas Army National Guard and is also a full-time firefighter with the Grandview, Missouri Fire Department.
