The Columbia Volunteer Fire Company is deeply saddened to share the passing of Life Member, and Ladies Auxiliary Member Phyllis Dixon, 97 years old, of Osceola Mills.

Phyllis enjoyed helping with fundraisers, and the Ladies Auxiliary in her younger years, where she was very dedicated to helping us. As she grew older, she still always made appearances throughout the year. Whether that would be at our annual fire company banquet, or sitting right next to our judges on the ramp of the station for the 4th of July Parade, she never missed the annual events.

Phyllis was a long time supporter of Columbia, and loved being part of our organization. We will truly miss Phyllis. We ask that you please keep her family, and loved ones in your thoughts.

Truck Training Sunday. Every Sunday we have been training hard on the new Truck 22 to assure we are proficient in what we are doing. Crews are learning the new riding assignments, refreshing on driving, setting up, and pumping. We are thankful to have the group we do. A lot of them have been putting in countless hours.

A busy afternoon for our volunteers. Today Engine 22-1 and Utility 22 assisted the Houtzdale-Ramey Fire Company with a Side by Side Crash with injuries on Spring Street in Woodward Township. Company 22 was assigned to the Landing Zone at SCI Houtzdale. Crews assisted with landing 2 Helicopters from 2 separate crash incidents. Our crews also assisted the EMS crews once they arrived at the landing zone. Stat Medevac 9 and Geisinger LifeFlight 2 both landed with no issues.

Just after clearing the landing zone, Company 22 was alerted for Fire and CO Alarms sounding at Bonnie's Greenhouse in Decatur Township. Crews arrived and checked the property finding an active propane leak inside the building. The tanks were removed and the building was ventilated.

Engine Rescue 22 is also on standby at Port Matilda Fire Co. 15 tonight while their members enjoy their annual banquet. We appreciate the invite every year, and are happy to always happy to cover for them.

2 Working Fires Today for Company 22

This morning Engine 22-1 and Tanker 22 assisted the Morris Township Fire Department with a 2nd Alarm House Fire on the Allport Cutoff in Graham Township. Crews worked on the interior to assist with fire extinguishment, and overhaul. Crews worked on scene for multiple hours before being placed available by command.

A few hours after clearing the first fire, company 22 was dispatched to assist the Philipsburg Fire Department with a Dwelling Fire on Tina Lane in Philipsburg Borough. First arriving crews had a working porch fire extending into the dwelling. Truck 22 responded and helped with overhaul.

We here at Columbia are so thankful for Diamondback Truck Covers of Philipsburg. They have been so generous to us over the years with fundraising assistance. Today our crew showed off our new cover that was donated by them for Utility 22. The new cover has different compartment doors to better allow us to operate on incidents.

Thank you so much Diamondback!

One year ago today, we sadly said goodbye to Russell Bush. Time goes by fast, but memories last forever if you keep them alive. As we prepare for the upcoming 4th of July Celebration, we know Russell is still giving us a helping hand in spirit. Continue watching over all of us from up above.

The Columbia Volunteer Fire Company of Osceola Mills sends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Brenda Peterson.

We here at Columbia worked so diligently with her husband Russ Peterson, who him and his team painted our new Ladder Truck recently. Brenda was a great person, and so is the rest of the Peterson Family.

Please keep them in your thoughts as they mourn the loss of Brenda.
