BURN BAN

After consulting with Counties Fire Chiefs a burn ban has been requested to Iowa State Fire Marshal for a burn ban for Clarke County. We are both wet and dry at the same time. The ground is extremely wet and yet the standing vegetation fuels is very dry. This makes it very difficult for fire departments to fight fires. over the last 2 days department have lost equipment trying to fight fires that started as controlled burns. Please do not burn.

After consulting with the Counties Fire Chiefs, I have requested the State Fire Marshal to issue a burn ban beginning Tomorrow Friday Feburary 6th at Noon until rescinded. Dry fuels and lack of moisture has created a situation in which fires can quickly get out of control and be hard to contain.
