“CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE”

The Sister Bay & Liberty Grove Fire Department would like to thank our mutual aid partners for there assistance last night.
We would like to also thank all of the residents and neighbors affected by this fire for their cooperation and understanding in what is a difficult situation for all of them.
We have been fortunate to be given permission to share with you a video that clearly shows the value of sleeping with your doors closed. The phrase to remember is “Close before you doze”

Osceola Volunteer Fire Department Receives State approval
to operate Basic Life Support Ambulance

Press Release from Osceola Fire Department

5-1-2020 Osceola, Iowa, The Osceola Fire Department received notification that they are the cleared by the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services to operate a basic life support ambulance.

The Fire Department ambulance will run as a backup and support to Clarke County Ambulance Offering additional assistance when needed. Including but not limited to: Assisting on vehicle accidents, special event standby, assistance on complex medical calls, and assist with multiple calls.
The endeavor was a nearly 9-month process of planning, regulatory process, equipment acquisition, and training. Both the Members of the Osceola Fire Department and Administration of Clarke County Hospital made this possible. “Hard work and countless hours by many individuals have made a long process produce a quality product” Byron Jimmerson, Osceola Fire Chief.
This process has been successful and very cost effective. The ambulance used was donated several years ago by the Clarke County Hospital. It has been converted back to an ambulance use with the assistance of the Hospital by donating a patient cot. A grant was obtained to purchase a zoll heart monitor/AED. Many supplies were donated from The Grand River Fire Department EMS folks. Mike at Cross Ministries has assisted in procuring several items at no cost to the department. Assistance from both Hospital Administration and City of Osceola Leadership has proved very valuable. Thank you to everyone involved.
Our goal is to continue to assist the citizens of our Fire District an support all of our partners throughout the County.
For more information on this project please Contact Byron Jimmerson, Osceola Fire Chief.

How much does Firefighter gear weigh? Picture 1 - A firefighter wearing his everyday station uniform. We wear this uniform around the station, to trainings, medical aids, and public assists.
Picture 2 - A firefighter with his turnouts and helmet. We wear this to vehicle accidents and hazardous conditions.
Picture 3 - A firefighter wearing his full turnouts, helmet, scba, and fire axe. We wear this to structure fires, vehicle fires, and gas leaks.
Picture 4 - A firefighter wearing his full turnouts + water can and irons. This is what firefighters may utilize for forcible entry, alarm soundings, and the early stages of a fire.
Picture 5 - A firefighter wearing his full turnouts + hose pack. This is what a firefighter would have for a residential structure fire or high rise fire.

Our personal protective equipment ensures our safety, but adds a large amount of weight to an already physically intensive job. Firefighters train hard to meet these tasks daily.

Extreme fire weather conditions will exist across southern Iowa this afternoon. The combination of strong northwest winds, low humidity values of 20-25 percent and dry fuels will lead to a critical fire weather day. Outside burning should be avoided today as any fire the becomes uncontrolled will quickly spread.

These inexpensive lights should have significant reduced maintenance and power consumption over the life time of the light.

‪Carbon Monoxide Safety Alert! Please take a minute to clear ice off your homes intakes and exhausts or it may back up into your home. CO has no odor, can’t see it- the silent killer! Do you have CO alarms? Are they where they need to be? Are the batteries fresh? Are the alarms expired? Ask yourself these questions or reach out to your local fire department as it might save your families life! Stay warm and safe!

This was taken at West Lake today. PLEASE! Stay off the ice. This is extremely dangerous.
