This month our Jr Firefighters took a field trip to Clinton, Missouri Fire Department to tour their facilities and check out all their equipment.

The boys enjoyed a full Tour and got to check out a lot of equipment we don't have in our department (some of which is spectacular). They also got to check out the living quarters and their "down time" quarters where they relax.

It was a fun time indeed. Thanks to CFD, Joab Smart and Matt Willings for making all this happen.

Iconium Fire Department volunteers did a little service project on Thursday evening. They removed a dead tree next to Liberty Baptist Church at the corner of Highway U at Scout Camp Road. Caretakers of the building have supported the fire department by letting us use the church lot for our Boot Block Voluntary Tolls fundraisers on Bartle Scout Reservation Visitors Days in June and July.

We had a very successful weekend with many volunteers helping clear storm-damaged properties north of Iconium. Along with Missouri Baptist Convention and Texas Baptist Convention disaster relief crews, an Appleton City crew, Aaron Yoder and his family from Central Hickory County Fire Department, Levi Bachmann all the way from Licking, Mo., and area residents Ed Sagar, Randy Polson, Warren Love, Von Schmidt, Matthew Noakes, Terry Daughtery, David Arduser, and Thomas Williams, along with their chainsaws, excavator, equipment, tractors and trailers. All took time out of their day to help neighbors.

The homeowners have saved thousands of dollars because of your generosity. We thank you for having such compassion. Special thanks go to Sheriff Lee Hilty, who also brought his equipment and opened up roads.

There is still more work to do. If you have time to help Monday morning, please call ASAP. There is rain in the forecast for the rest of the week so we hope to get a lot done on Monday, June 2. Call Fire Chief David Price at 417-309-0078.

The Iconium Fire Department is seeking volunteers on Friday and Saturday, May 30 - 31 [THIS IS A CHANGE FROM THE ORIGINAL POST] to help people in our service area whose neighborhoods were devastated by the tornadoes on May 19. We need dump trucks, dump trailers, and wood chipper operators to grind up and haul off wood chips.

Dozens of branches and trees are piled up in yards in the Fox Run and Richochet Ridge subdivisions off Highway ZZ between Truman Lake and the St. Clair County - Henry County line. The Iconium Fire Department will pay to rent a wood chipper but we need people who can spend a day feeding the chipper and others who can bring trailers and trucks to accept the chips and haul them away, probably to the yard next to our Station 3, about a mile from those subdivisions.

If you have time and/or equipment to help our overwhelmed neighbors, please call Fire Chief David Price, 417-309-0078. Also call him if you have a place where we could dump the wood chips or if you would like to donate funds to help us with the cost of the chipper and fuel (we estimate our cost will be $2,000).

If we get enough response, we could extend our relief efforts into the weekend and help others in the area.
