Oscoda First Responders Raising awareness about the need for medical first responders in our community, and who we are and w

Who doesn't like a great story?

When Ed decided to spend part of his summer on Lake Huron in Oscoda (from his home in Indiana), he never thought that the worst case scenario could happen. Shortly after unloading the car, he went inside the cabin to grab a drink. Moments later he was found not breathing and without a pulse by his adult daughter. She quickly got some help from some neighbors and called 911. Collaboratively they started CPR until the ambulance came. Upon EMS arrival, he was defibrillated twice and regained spontaneous circulation and then transported to a local hospital.

FlightCare was then called to transport him to Ascension St. Mary's and he went directly to the cardiac cath lab. He had an occluded coronary artery and received an angioplasty and stent.

Here is a picture of Ed and his daughter standing next to FlightCare upon his discharge on his way back home to Indiana.

The out of hospital survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest is around 6%.

Your life is defined by two dates and a dash, make the most of your dash.

We couldn't be happier for you Ed.

It’s been a while since we updated and there has been a lot of information out there. One of the biggest issues is that due to man power the Oscoda First Responders may be left no options but to stop providing service in the future. We have applied for and received a grant to help fulfill man power needs. If you are interested in helping us continue this valuable service please contact us.

Iosco county 911 now utilizes Smart911. Most do not realize that dialing 911 from a cell phone provides very little information to dispatchers. One key piece of information not always obtained is an address. By Registering with this service you can provide your home address and important information that can be used to assist you in the event of an emergency. Please consider registering and sharing this information. We will be sharing this often in hopes of spreading the word and potentially saving a life.
