Fourth of July Fireworks Safety Message from the Town of Oshkosh Fire Department
As we celebrate our nation's independence, the Town of Oshkosh Fire Department would like to remind everyone that the only thing that should be lighting up the sky this Fourth of July is the fireworks—not your garage, your deck, your neighbor's mulch, or Uncle Bob's eyebrows.
Before you celebrate, please remember these important safety tips:
✅ Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
✅ Light one firework at a time and maintain a safe distance.
✅ Never attempt to relight a firework that doesn't go off.
✅ Keep children and pets away from fireworks.
✅ Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
✅ Properly soak used fireworks before disposing of them.
Every year, firefighters respond to preventable fires and injuries caused by the improper use of fireworks. A few moments of caution can make the difference between ending the night with great memories or an unexpected visit from your local fire department.
We love seeing patriotic displays and family celebrations, but we'd much rather wave at you from a parade route than meet you in your driveway at 11:30 PM because a Roman Candle challenged a pine tree to a duel.
Celebrate responsibly, look out for your neighbors, and help keep the Town of Oshkosh safe this Independence Day.
