We need to extend a huge thanks to Alex LaFountain and Eagle Scout Troop 14, along with family and friends, for constructing these 6 outdoor box turtle enclosures for us. They worked their butts off and it shows, because they turned out amazing! We truly cannot express how much we, and the turtles, appreciate all their hard work. Thank you so much!

It's fledgling season! If you see a baby bird on the ground (or in my case on my grill 😀) and it doesn't appear outwardly injured or sick, it probably just left the nest and is learning to fly. Keep an eye out for mom watching from nearby, and baby should be gone within a day or two.

There is a vibration, an anxiety that all Midwestern rehabbers are feeling... the impending BABY SEASON😬😅

🚗Be aware when driving, adult wildlife are more active at odd times. They are looking for dates, food, and spots to raise their young.

🚫Please, do not, under any circumstances set a trap for any wildlife until you speak to a rehabber; doesn't even need to be a rehabber in your area. We will guide your decision in a way that all parties win and hopefully avoid creating orphans.

🏠The ONLY reason a raccoon wants in to your home is because they know its warm. Period. They had all winter to "want in" but why now? Because they want a safe place to raise babies.

🪹There are going to be nests of bunnies that look abandoned. Leave them.
There will be nests of squirrels in campers, attics and engines. Speak to a rehabber. Moms want their babies and we can usually find a way to make it all work out.

☎️Rehabbers are going to be inundated with calls. Pack your patience. We are all volunteers that are working full time and/or raising families. We are simply humans that want to help as much as we can.

🍼The more babies we keep with mom means the more spots we have for REAL orphans.

📷Your well intended "rescue" could be a kidnapping. So take photos, NOT babies and send pictures and details.

Thank you.

Buckle up colleagues....baby season 2026 is starting.

Huge thank you to everyone that donated items from our wish list. We truthfully could not do this without the help of our community. Thank you for caring for Wisconsin Wildlife! ❤️

Imagine a timeline where bald eagles never came back.
Where sea turtles didn’t get a second chance.
Where black-footed ferrets, condors, and manatees quietly disappeared.

Signed into law on December 28, 1973, the Endangered Species Act helps prevent extinction and gives plants and wildlife a fighting chance to recover. Happy anniversary to the ESA!
