Today's heat index values will be in the mid to upper 90s, with some locations in northeast Wisconsin approaching 100°F. ☀

The National Weather Service has 4 great questions to ask yourself before going out on a hot day:
💧 Do you have enough water?
🌳 Do you have temporary shade available?
🌡️ Do you know the symptoms of heat illness?
📱 Do you know who to call in an emergency?

Visit https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat for more heat safety information!

Human Services continually recruits new foster homes to meet the needs of children and families

Foster parents provide care for children who cannot remain with their biological families for a variety of reasons. Typically, this may be due to physical, sexual, and emotional abuse; neglect; a special needs child and/or delinquency issues.

Foster care is a temporary living arrangement meant to provide a safe and stable environment for a child while their family works on improving their circumstances. The primary goal of foster care is to help the biological family regain placement of their child.

🌲 Thank You, Winnebago County Landowners 🌲
This year, 100,250 trees were distributed in Winnebago County through the Wisconsin DNR's annual tree sale program. The Winnebago County LWCD partners with the DNR to support the program by providing supplies and resources that assist landowners in planting and establishing trees.

Thank you to everyone who ordered and planted trees this year. Whether you planted a few hundred seedlings or several thousand, every tree planted today is an investment in cleaner air, healthier soil, cleaner water, and a stronger environment for future generations.

🦸‍♂️ Trees are nature's superheroes. Through photosynthesis, trees use sunlight to turn carbon dioxide and water into the energy they need to grow. As a bonus, they release oxygen back into the atmosphere—the very air we breathe.

🌱 A mature tree can absorb more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

💧 Trees are natural water managers, reducing runoff, preventing erosion, filtering pollutants, and helping keep our lakes and rivers cleaner.

🌳 Trees can absorb 10–150 gallons of water per day and release most of it back into the air, helping store, filter & release stormwater.

📅 Thinking about planting next year? Mark your Calendars!
Tree ordering for the 2027 planting season opens October 1, 2026. Orders remain open until inventory sells out, and popular species often go quickly—so order early! https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/TreePlanting

🌳 Ready to plant? The Winnebago County LWCD offers tree planting equipment and supplies year-round:
• Tree Planters (for tractor planting)
• Tree Planting Spades (for hand planting)
• Fertilizer & Root Moisturizer
• Tree Shelters (Tubes, nets & stakes to protect seedlings)

Items available for rent and/or purchase. Contact LWCD for details. https://www.winnebagocountywi.gov/718/Tree-Planting-Supplies
