There is a lot happening in Wisconsin politics right now. A lot worth paying attention to. And if the energy in that room last Thursday is any indication, the right people are showing up for it.

Part 3 of 4.

Something I tell my kids: don’t sit around wishing someone would do something. You are the someone.

That’s why I’m here.

The 55th has been written off. Under-resourced, siloed, and handed a narrative that says it isn’t worth the fight. I just don’t believe that. I’ve never believed that about a community I chose to put my roots down in.

I want to leave this district better than I found it. That’s the whole job. That’s the only metric that matters to me when this is over.

Part 2 of 4.

Four kids. A crash course in how school systems actually work when you need them to work for your family.

That’s what got me to the school board. And once I was there I started understanding the finances, really understanding them, and what I found was that the problems everyone was frustrated about locally weren’t local problems. They were state problems showing up at our doorstep every single budget cycle.

Democracy works better when there’s an actual choice. The 55th deserved one and I couldn’t find a reason not to try.

Joined Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, Representative Lori Palmeri, Becky Nichols, and Brad Smith in Oshkosh for a summer rally that had a lot to say.

Part 1: who I am and how I got here. Lawyer. Social worker. Mom. Candidate. Not necessarily in that order on any given day.

Can you smell the cookies through the video?!

Stopped into Caramel Crisp in downtown Oshkosh this week and got exactly what I came for. Satisfy my unsweetened black tea addiction, a great conversation, and a reminder that the best community happens in places that have been showing up for their neighbors for a hundred years.

Supporting local isn’t a district thing. It’s a values thing. And Caramel Crisp has been living those values longer than most of us have been alive.

Happy 4th, the big 250!

I went around and asked people what they’d want to give America for her birthday. The answers were better than I expected.

Turns out when you stop talking at each other for five minutes and just ask a real question, people have real things to say. We’re more connected than the noise wants us to believe.

Community. That’s the gift. That’s always been the gift.

Completely forgot my own anniversary until Danny called to remind me. Four kids, busy career, campaigns, 16 years married and he’s still supportive as ever and keeping track.

The budget numbers for next school year are bad. The kind of bad where every cut that could have been made already has been. And yeah, it’s heavy. It’s supposed to be heavy. These are our kids.

But that’s also exactly why this race matters. What’s happening in classrooms right now is a state level failure showing up at the local level and somebody in Madison needs to know the weight of it the way the people in the 55th already do.

Taking a moment to breathe and regroup myself. I’ll be back at it in a bit. That’s the job.
