UW Oshkosh Police Department

UW Oshkosh Police Department The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Police Department's primary goal is to provide a safe campus environment conducive to personal growth and education.

The UW Oshkosh Police Department’s highly trained, educated and professional state police officers patrol campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Uniformed police officers patrol the campus on foot, on bicycle and in marked and unmarked police vehicles. Three of the University’s police officers also serve as liaison officers to the residence halls. Duties of University Police officers include respon

ding to calls for service, self-initiating activity when necessary, building security checks, assisting local law enforcement and conducting criminal investigations. Officers enforce all criminal and traffic laws, and administrative rules of the University of Wisconsin System. Through a partnership with the Department of Residence Life, the UW Oshkosh Police Department operates the Community Service Officer (CSO) program, which trains student employees who assist in maintaining campus safety. The University Police department also offers a variety of crime prevention programs.

UW Oshkosh Police is aware of a recent service disruption effecting an online Learning Management System.

If you are contacted directly by anyone claiming to have your data, we recommend you not send payment or respond to their demands. By receiving a message, that does not necessarily mean your personal information has been compromised. Threat actors often exagerate or fabricate to prompt payment from victims. We encourage individuals to be cautious of unsolicited emails, calls, or text claiming to be from your school, the learning management system, or law enforcement and verify the contact through known channels before responding.

We understand the immediate concern for individuals or students when trying to determine what, if any, of their data or other sensitive information may have been exposed.

UW Oshkosh Police Department recognizes that UW Oshkosh students simply want to spend time with friends and enjoy the event responsibly. However, one of our biggest concerns is that the continued popularity of Pub Crawl attracts individuals who are not connected to UW Oshkosh or the Oshkosh community, creating safety concerns for students, residents, and neighborhoods.

As these gatherings grow, it becomes difficult for hosts and attendees to control who enters homes, garages, yards, and parties. What starts as a gathering among friends quickly becomes overcrowded and unpredictable. This increases the risk of fights, property damage, medical emergencies, and other dangerous behavior, that unfortunately, includes the presence of weapons.

UW Oshkosh Police Department's data from this year’s Pub Crawl reflects those concerns. During April 10 and 11, UW Oshkosh Police recorded 29 incident contacts, with alcohol involved in 90% of those incidents. Officers issued 9 citations, 7 warnings, made 2 arrests, and assisted in two medical transports to local hospitals. Of the individuals involved, 23 of the 28 identified were under the age of 21.

The data also shows that many of the individuals involved were not UW Oshkosh students. Seventeen of the incidents involved non-students, compared to 8 involving UW Oshkosh students. Additional contacts included students from other colleges and universities.

The concerns surrounding Pub Crawl are not simply about underage drinking or enforcement. They are about the broader safety risks that come with large, unsanctioned gatherings involving individuals who may have little connection to or concern for our community.

The UW Oshkosh Police Department will always remain focused on the safety of our students, residents, and community partners. We encourage everyone participating to think beyond the tradition itself and recognize how individual decisions impact the safety of others and the wellbeing of our community.

A community member stopped to talk with one of our officers about this exact situation yesterday. Sometimes these things seem like they could be true.

I park in Milwaukee County. I go there often. What did I do wrong?

When in doubt search for their real number and give them a call. They can clear things up for you!

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

We are seeing an increase in scam text messages and calls claiming you have unpaid toll fees, traffic citations, jury duty obligations, or even bail payments. These messages often demand immediate payment to avoid enforcement.

⚠️ Know this: The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office or any legitimate law enforcement agency will NEVER text or call you demanding payment or threatening immediate action.

👉 And a quick reality check: Milwaukee doesn’t even have toll roads — so that “unpaid toll” text is your first clue it’s a scam.

If you receive one of these messages:
• Do not click any links or scan QR codes
• Do not provide personal or financial information
• Delete the message and report it as spam

✔️ You can verify legitimate citations through the Milwaukee County Clerk of Courts at (414) 278-5362 or the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Desk at (414) 278-4712.

Stay alert and help protect others by sharing this information.
