Over the past week, ABC has been very active, admitting 20 birds and 2 turtles. One patient, a juvenile bald eagle suffering from lead poisoning, was transferred to LTBB Aviary and Rehabilitation Center to receive continued care. We also collaborated with ARK on a patient exchange, securing care for two Barred owls (momma who had a broken wing and a baby) needing flight conditioning. Unfortunately, water ingress in our basement rehabilitation area persists, forcing us to adopt temporary management solutions. The proposed solution of an internal drainage system is estimated to cost $14,000, an amount we would need to fund directly. The support from fellow rehabilitation centers has been invaluable in managing our caseload, and the efforts of Valorie Haneckow in caring for our young animals are especially appreciated. Below, we share photos highlighting our activities. The donations help with food, medication, and supplies remains crucial in for sustaining our wildlife rehabilitation work. Your continued support enables us to fulfill our missions. Pleasen support all organizations as without donations we could not do what we do to help out feathered and furry friends!

🦌 Baby Deer Are Usually NOT Orphans – Please Leave Them Alone! 🦌

Each spring and summer, well-meaning people find young fawns lying alone and assume they have been abandoned. In most cases, this is completely normal behavior.

Mother deer leave their fawns hidden for long periods while they feed nearby. The fawn’s lack of scent and instinct to remain still helps protect it from predators. Mom typically returns several times a day to nurse and care for her baby.

A fawn should only be considered in need of help if:
• Its mother is confirmed dead nearby.
• It is visibly injured or bleeding.
• It is lying next to a deceased doe.
• It has obvious signs of illness, weakness, or distress.

Please do not “rescue” or remove healthy fawns from the wild. Taking a fawn from its natural environment greatly reduces its chances of survival and prevents it from being reunited with its mother.

For those in the Alpena area, deer rehabilitation is not permitted without the proper licenses. Because deer cannot legally be rehabilitated here, injured fawns often must be euthanized. There are also potential fines and penalties for possessing or rehabilitating deer without the required authorization.

If you are unsure whether a fawn truly needs help, contact your local wildlife authorities before intervening.

📸 Remember: If the fawn is quiet, curled up, and uninjured, the best thing you can do is admire it from a distance and leave it exactly where it is.

We have had a lot of recent intakes including window strikes and our first babies of the season. Paper bedding for the rat/mice colonies and toys for Rio our ambassador are also needed. Baby birds are fed every 15-30 minutes throughout the day. If you have a bird emergency please get the bird contained and in a quiet dark place (closed box is best) and we will get back with you as soon as we can. Please no ford or water as we are unsure why it's injured and feeding or watering it could cause more harm.

We are also dealing with water in our basement still which is where we care for the birds: so that has made things difficult. We are getting quotes for repairing the basement but could be months before it can actually be fixed. Thanks for everyone who supports our mission! https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/25F641Y2ME75K?ref_=list_d_wl_ys_list_1
