You and I have a unique opportunity tomorrow to play the deciding role in the most important issue facing Ossining and Briarcliff residents: the future of the property reassessment or 'Total Town Reevaluation.'
If residents come out tomorrow and vote for John Perillo, Aaron Spring, and Michael Milner - the nightmare of reassessment is over: our team will scrap the project in its entirety. The New Ossining Town Board will not implement any portion of the reassessment.
We can, and will, scrap the property reassessment. But we need your help - we need to make sure residents come out and vote.
The Ossining Democratic Party spends, each year, an extraordinary sum of money on GOTV efforts - they literally bus people, en masse, to the polls. They've been doing this successfully for over 40 years - and Ossining has suffered through 40 years of one-party rule as a result.
Today, the great majority of Ossining residents have never experienced bipartisanship in local government. Today there is not a single elected office in the Town or Village of Ossining held by someone without a 'D' by their name. The result? The town has the audacity to tell residents that they aren't paying their "fair share" in property taxes.
We live in one of the highest taxes towns in the highest taxes county in the entire country! It should go without saying: ALL of us are paying a heck of a lot more than our "fair share."
We our doing everything we can to prevent the reassessment from taking effect and forcing hundreds of residents from their homes.
But our team needs to win tomorrow, and this election will be extraordinarily close. Tomorrow's election will almost certainly be decided by less than 100 votes. In 2011, Republican Peter Tripodi lost election as Ossining Town Supervisor to Democrat Sue Donnally, 49% to 51% - less than 60 votes short of victory.
We are doing everything we can do make sure this doesn't happen again.
In the past four days, volunteers for John, Aaron, and Mike have called over 4,000 Ossining households, encouraging residents to get out and vote - to vote for the New Ossining Town Board and to vote to put an end to the property reassessment that will increase taxes and rents.
In the past four days, our Facebook posts have reached over 27,000 Ossining and Briarcliff residents, we've more than doubled the number of 'likes' on our page, and over 1,600 residents have watched John Perillo's closing statement during the first Ossining High School debate.
This is in addition to a sophisticated, targeted ad campaign, targeted mailings, and a massive push by our younger volunteers to get our message out by distributing campaign literature outside grocery stores, convenience stores, parks, and more.
For the Ossining Democratic Party, their focus is on simply turning out their base tomorrow. We need more than just your vote - we need your help. We don't need money or donations, we need you to reach out and make sure your friends and neighbors get to the polls.
Our team has a clear message: we will end the property reassessment. For the majority of Ossining residents, our victory tomorrow is the difference between higher taxes overnight, or the security in knowing that you and I will continue to be able to afford to live in the town we all love.
