The State of New Hampshire requires all municipalities to implement an Enhanced 9-1-1 (E911) numbering system for emergency response, guided by NH Bureau of Emergency Communications. In Town of Ossipee, NH, street numbers are assigned by the town and property owners are legally required to display them so that emergency services can easily find your location.
Number Display Requirements (While each New Hampshire town has its own specific municipal ordinance), they generally follow strict state and national E911 standards:
Placement: Numbers must be prominently affixed to the primary building, as well as on a mailbox or signpost at the driveway entrance if the house is set far back or hidden from the road E911 Street Numbering Ordinance : Address numbers must face the street and be visible year-round, completely unobstructed by trees or snow.
Size & Contrast: Numbers must be at least 3.5 to 4 inches in height and in a strongly contrasting color to the background they are mounted on.
