Delaware County Emergency Management is hosting the HazMat IQ Above-The-Line/Below-The-Line courses at the EOC today. Our office secured grant funding through the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness grant to cover two offerings of this class, with the Delaware County Fire Chiefs' Assn. covering the local match. 60 firefighters attended this invaluable training over the two sessions.

HazMat IQ Above-The-Line/Below-The-Line is an easy-to-understand methodology that simplifies size-up for any chemical in virtually seconds, then walks first responders through a streamlined chemical research method to verify their initial size-up. This allows crews to immediately go to work when they arrive on scene of a hazardous materials incident.

"You don't rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of your training"

August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month, a time to recognize the professionals who work year-round to help people, businesses, and institutions prepare for and recover from disasters. Disasters are inevitable, but catastrophes are not. Emergency management brings partners together to solve complex problems, reduce harm, and restore stability during emergencies. Emergency management isn’t just about reacting; it’s also about planning in advance, coordinating under pressure, and developing lasting resilience.

This process only happens when you have a group of dedicated individuals with a passion for serving their community who show up every day to contemplate the worst-case scenario and develop the best possible solutions. Here is YOUR Delaware County Emergency Management team, Delaware County:
🟦 Director Alex McCarthy
🟦 Dep. Director Scott Stewart
