🚨 INCIDENT UPDATE: Multi-Agency Haz-Mat Response in Scriba 🚨
On August 29, 2026, at 17:15, the Oswego County Haz-Mat Team was requested to a residential scene in Scriba to assist Scriba FD.
The incident began as a medical call for two occupants experiencing dizziness and confusion. Initial responding ambulance personnel began experiencing similar symptoms upon entering the structure, at which point they requested the fire department for investigation. Arriving fire personnel recognized the need for additional resources and declared a Haz-Mat incident.
Upon arrival, Haz-Mat personnel, with assistance from Oswego FD, Minetto FD, and Cody FD deployed specialized air-metering equipment to monitor the environment. It was determined that a household pesticide agent had been inadvertently aerosolized inside the residence, resulting in toxic vapors.Teams successfully mitigated the hazard.
The two occupants and the affected ambulance crew members were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and are expected to make a full recovery. No firefighter injuries were reported.
