Learning, connecting, and growing!

On Friday, October 2, Ms. Thill, one of our Plank educators, attended “Hope to Action: Civic Inquiries,” a full day of professional learning hosted by the Illinois Council for the Social Studies (ICSS) at the Obama Presidential Center.

The day focused on using primary sources and inquiry lessons to strengthen students’ critical thinking skills. Ms. Thill collaborated with fellow educators and gathered fresh ideas to bring back to the classroom for our students!

Age: 20 Years | Built: 2006 | Size: 193,000 Sq. Ft.

ABOUT US: Plank Junior High School, home of the Pirates, opened in 2006 and was named after a former superintendent. Today, 21 original staff members remain part of Plank, showing just how special this school community is.

Plank is an engaging school where students are encouraged to reach their full potential as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Through meaningful opportunities, Plank prepares students to be college- and career-ready and confident in their ability to navigate the future.

Sports, arts, music, clubs, and activities allow students ways to explore.

OUR BUILDING PRIORITIES
- Replace Broken PE Lockers
- Resurface Parking Lots and Walkways
- Address Rusting and Leaking Doorways
- Replace Worn Carpet and Flooring
- New Cameras & Intercom Systems

The facility report found that our HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and door access control need to be replaced.

Parent Teacher Conferences are October 22 and 23! Junior high students will have early dismissal on Thursday, October 22, and no school on Friday, October 23.

6th grade elective changes go live on Monday!
Dear 6th Grade Plank Families,
Beginning Monday, October 19, 2026, Plank Junior High students will transition to their Quarter 2 elective classes as part of our quarterly rotation schedule. This rotation allows our Pirates to explore a variety of elective opportunities throughout the school year.
Please check PowerSchool to confirm your student's Quarter 2 elective class. All students should report to their new elective class on Monday, October 19.
As Quarter 1 comes to a close on Friday, October 16, please note that Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 elective grades will both be reported at the end of Semester 1. These grades will appear on students' semester report cards along with their other semester grades.
If you have any questions about your student's schedule, please reach out to your child's school counselor.
