🚒 Today marks the end of an era for our department.

After years of dedicated service, our very own Jimmy Pechinski has officially hung up his gear for the last time. Today was his last shift, and what a run it has been!

Jimmy, you’ve shown up, not just for alarms and calls, but for your fellow firefighters, your community, and everyone who needed you most.

As you close this chapter and step into a well earned retirement, know that your legacy will live on in the halls of this station.

Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your heart. Now go enjoy every single second of it, you’ve more than earned it! 🎉👏

The Oswego Fire Protection District is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant through the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office to assist with the replacement of fire gear extractors at three district fire stations.
One of the most important pieces of equipment inside a fire station is the gear extractor, commonly referred to as a gear washer. These specialized machines allow firefighters to thoroughly clean carcinogens and other hazardous contaminants from their protective gear following fire incidents.
Modern firefighting research has shown that repeated exposure to smoke, soot, and toxic chemicals significantly increases the risk of occupational cancer among firefighters. Proper cleaning and decontamination of turnout gear is a critical component in protecting firefighters from long-term health risks.
The grant funding will allow the district to replace aging extractors at three stations, including one machine that has been in service for more than twenty years.
“This grant directly supports the health and safety of our firefighters,” said Chief Joshua Flanders. “Ensuring our personnel have reliable equipment to properly clean their protective gear after incidents is essential in reducing exposure to carcinogens and maintaining firefighter wellness.”
The Oswego Fire Protection District appreciates the continued support of the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and its commitment to improving firefighter safety throughout the state.

This is a great event, for a great cause.

This is a great event, for a great cause.

We’re baacckkk and we brought friends! The Oswego Police Department is partnering up with the Oswego Fire Protection District to create Smoke & Sirens Racing for the Five-O Racing at Grundy County Speedway on August 1, 2026.

Five-O Racing is a community-driven race that brings together first responder crews from across the state to compete in modified police cars while raising funds for Special Olympics Illinois. The starting position of the race is based off how much money the team has raised.

Grant Towing and Collision Connection Auto Body donated a car for us to transform into a race car. Members of both departments will be working on the car to make sure it meets the racing requirements. Lieutenant Chet Hartley of OFPD will be our driver with Officer Cherese Spears as the team manager. We are looking for business sponsors. If you are a business that is interested in sponsoring us, please contact Officer Spears at [email protected] for more information.

We also are accepting donations to support the team, visit https://support.soill.org/team/829766 to make a straight donation and to learn more about the Five-O Racing.

Red Shift was out today putting in some truck work time at the fire department training center.

Focusing on forcible entry, ground ladders, and sharpening the skills that matter when seconds count. 🚒🪓🪜

The training center gives crews the opportunity to safely practice real-world scenarios, work through challenges, and build confidence in the tools and techniques used on emergency scenes every day.

From forcing doors to throwing ladders quickly and safely, this type of hands-on training keeps firefighters ready for the real thing while strengthening teamwork along the way.
Because when the call comes in, there’s no time to “figure it out.” That’s why we train. 💪🔥
