It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unfortunate passing of retired Oswego County Sheriff Reuel “Moe” Todd on August 31, 2023. Sheriff Todd passed away peacefully at his home, with his wife Valerie and family by his side.

Sheriff Todd began his career with Oswego County Sheriff’s Office in 1974 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and then Investigator just 3 years after joining. He was promoted to the position of Undersheriff in 1984 and elected Sheriff in 1999. Sheriff Todd served in that role for almost 20 years before retiring in 2018.

The Oswego County Public Safety building was recently dedicated in honor of “Moe”. At the dedication in October 2022, OCSO recognized Moe’s deep ties to our building and the Office of the Sheriff throughout his 44-year career in law enforcement. It was our privilege to present the dedication and celebrate Moe with his family, friends and peers. Many of the officers still on staff at OCSO are honored to have worked with Moe and will treasure his guidance and commitment to public safety, security and peace in Oswego County.

On behalf of the Oswego County Legislature and Sheriff Don Hilton, we ask that you keep Sheriff Todd’s family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

WE REMEMBER LODD – On August 31st, 1969 Assistant Chief Donald E. McFee was operating at a working barn fire in the town of Mexico. While entering the lower section of the barn to assess a possible fire attack plan, the structure collapsed, trapping him under burning debris. Personnel on scene began rescue efforts immediately. When Chief McFee was extricated from the building he was pronounced dead at the scene. Chief McFee was 39 years old and had served 19 years.
