We'd like to give a well-deserved shout-out to a truck driver who recently noticed a young child near the roadway and immediately stopped to help.

The driver safely got the child out of harms way and called us. Officers arrived, located the child's family and reunited the child with a parent.

We appreciate this driver's quick thinking and willingness to stop and help. It was a simple decision that made a very importance difference.

Keeping Our Community Safe and Responsible

This past weekend, officers conducted alcohol compliance checks at 43 establishments in the Village. Ten businesses were issued a total of 20 ordinance violations for selling alcohol to a minor. (Both the business and the seller receive citations). In addition, one to***co establishment was issued 2 ordinance violations for selling to***co to a minor.

These checks are part of our ongoing effort to ensure liquor and to***co license holders operate responsibly and help prevent underage usage. Regular compliance checks are conducted throughout the year in accordance with Village ordinance.

News Release | Major Vehicle Crash Injures Juveniles

The Oswego Police Department is still investigating a major vehicle crash that injured two juveniles Saturday afternoon at Route 34 and Heritage Drive.

While citations have been issued in connection with the crash, the investigation remains ongoing pending completion of the traffic crash reconstruction. Additional charges or citations may be issued. Updates will be provided as available.

Oswego Police Investigating Major Vehicle Crash That Injured Two Juveniles

[Oswego, IL] – The Oswego Police Department is investigating a major vehicle crash that injured two juveniles who were waiting to cross Route 34 at Heritage Drive on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

At approximately 12:51 p.m. Saturday, Oswego Police were dispatched to the intersection of Route 34 and Heritage Drive for a major vehicle crash. The preliminary investigation indicates that an Infiniti Q50 was traveling eastbound on Route 34 when it entered the intersection against a red light. A Ford Explorer was already in the intersection waiting for an opportunity to complete a left turn onto Heritage Drive. After the traffic signal changed to red, the Ford Explorer proceeded to turn left and struck the Infiniti as it entered the intersection. The impact caused the Infiniti to slide sideways toward three juveniles who were waiting on the sidewalk for the signal to safely cross the intersection. The Infiniti struck two of the juveniles before also striking the traffic signal pole.

The two injured juveniles were transported by the Oswego Fire Protection District to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. One juvenile is considered to be in stable condition. The other juvenile was transferred to Loyola Medical Center, and their current condition is unknown. The third juvenile was evaluated at the scene and declined treatment.

The three occupants of the Infiniti and the two occupants of the Ford Explorer had also been evaluated at the scene and declined treatment.

Illinois State Police were called to assist and conduct a traffic crash reconstruction. The driver of the Infiniti, 18-year-old Brayden Faltz, of Oswego, was issued citations for disobeying a traffic signal and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The driver of the Ford Explorer, 31-year-old Montel Johnson, of Oswego, was issued citations for driving with a suspended vehicle registration and a mandatory insurance violation.

The crash remains under investigation pending completion of the reconstruction report. Further charges or citations may be issued following completion of the investigation. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Eastbound Route 34 was closed between Douglas Road and Prairie Market Drive for approximately three hours while Oswego Police and Illinois State Police conducted the reconstruction and processed the scene. The Oswego Police Department would like to thank the Illinois State Police and the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.

The roadway is now open. Police have cleared the scene. A news release will be issued later today.

UPDATE - 2:02 P.m.
Police are still on the scene. Two juveniles who were injured have been transported for medical treatment and their families have been notified. Other individuals involved in the crash were evaluated and did not require transportation. The Illinois State Police is responding to assist with crash reconstruction, and we expect the road closure to remain for approximately 1 1/2 - 2 more hours.

We understand crashes involving juveniles can be concerning for the community. At this time, we do not have additional information to share regarding their condition. We will update when more information is available.

🚔 Class is in session!

The Oswego East High School Criminal Justice dual-credit class stopped by for a behind-the-scenes tour with SRO Cisneros.

This full-semester class gives students the opportunity to earn college credit through Waubonsee Community College while learning about the criminal justice profession. Today’s tour gave them a look at some of the places and spaces they don't normally get to see, including the shooting range, fitness room and even the sergeant area.

And apparently, the fitness room came with a bonus sighting of a former SRO putting in some work. 😂💪

The students will be back throughout the semester as they continue learning about the different aspects of the law enforcement profession.

We love giving students an inside look at the career and who knows, maybe we'll be seeing some familiar faces around OPD in the future. 👀

A Chicago woman was arrested following an early-morning vehicle-versus-bicycle crash at Route 31 and W. Washington Street on August 26.

Oswego Police Arrest Driver Following Vehicle-Versus-Bicycle Crash

Arrestee: SMITH, Jasmine D, 36 YOA, of the 400 block of 46th Street, Chicago
Charges: Leaving the Scene of an Accident (Class A Misdemeanor); Driving While License Suspended (Class A Misdemeanor)

(Oswego, IL) – As a result of an investigation into a vehicle-versus-bicycle crash that occurred at Route 31 and W. Washington Street on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, a Chicago woman was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and driving while her license was suspended.

At approximately 12:07 a.m., officers were dispatched to Route 31 and W. Washington St. for a report of a bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle. The vehicle reportedly left the scene and was last seen traveling northbound on Route 31. Approximately 20 minutes after the crash, deputies from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle matching witness descriptions in a parking lot off Harbor Drive. Shortly after the vehicle was located, dispatch advised that a female caller was reporting that she had struck a person on a bicycle. Officers subsequently interviewed the woman as part of their investigation.

The preliminary investigation determined that Jasmine D. SMITH, of Chicago, was traveling northbound on Route 31 near W. Washington St, when she struck a 15-year-old bicyclist, a resident of Oswego. The victim was transported to Rush Copley Medical Center and later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Her current condition is unknown.

Oswego Police arrested Smith for leaving the scene of an accident and driving while license suspended. The investigation remains ongoing, and the case will be reviewed for any additional charges. Smith has a court date of October 6, 2026. Any additional information will be released when available.
