Today marks the second day of the Battle of Oswego 1814 and Fort Ontario has a special historical marker to commemorate the event. Located at the overlook parking lot and a short distance from the site of the British landing on May 6th 1814, this panel describes the events of May 5-7 1814 that would culminate in a British victory and Fort Ontario being destroyed for the third and final time. Fort Ontario would be rebuilt in the early 1840's which is what visitors see today with several later 19th century improvements.
