Tonight at Bi-weekly drill, members practiced the skills of V.E.S (vent, entry & search).
Members were “dispatched” to a “scene” where it was confirmed there was a trapped victim and they worked in teams of 2 to vent windows, gain entry into the window and search for the victim. Using thermal imaging search crews were able to identify door ways, isolate the fire room by closing doors and search for victims before reporting their findings to “dispatch”.
Training in these types of skills help us to remain calm and alert when the scenarios become real life.
And of course after drilling was over, there was business meeting and snacks along with laughs as usual!

Our meet the crew ems week continues with our newest member, Miranda!

Miranda is the youngest member of our EMS family which can sometimes be intimidating but Miranda has embraced the role as if she’s been in it for years!

Miranda comes to us from a busy service in the state of Florida so Otis is a change of pace for her but she has been so willing to learn the ins and outs of rural ems and enjoys our little town and all it has to offer. Miranda never hesitates to ask questions and learn from those around her!

We are grateful to have Miranda as part of our crew!

🚑 EMS Week is moving right along, and today we want everyone to meet Patrick

For the past three years, Patrick has been a steady and dependable part of the Otis EMS family. From day one, he has shown what true commitment to a community looks like always willing to answer the call, step up when needed, and go above and beyond for both his patients and his fellow responders.

While Patrick works full-time as an electrician and also serves as an officer with Southwick Fire, he still dedicates countless hours to the Town of Otis because he genuinely cares about this community and the people in it. Even though he isn’t an Otis resident, you would never know it by the level of pride, professionalism, and dedication he brings to our department every single shift.

Patrick is the kind of provider every community hopes to have! We are incredibly grateful for everything Patrick does for our department, our patients, and our community. Thank you, Patrick, for your continued dedication and service to Otis!

*also featuring his beautiful wife who is supportive of Patrick and his commitment to all he does!

Day 2 of EMS week!

Today’s face is Brittany or Britt as she’s known to most, our EMS Supervisor.

Britt started out on the fire side when she was 17 and has made the climb to Lieutenant this past April. She began her EMS career as a per diem for us about 6 years ago. 4 years ago she joined Otis ems full time after leaving the education field.

Britt continues to grow her skill set and never backs down from whatever challenge a scene has to throw at her, her dedication to Otis ems has been seen through her patient care and her willingness to show up.

It’s the start of EMS week and we’d like to introduce you to faces of Otis Fire & Rescue!

First up, Rich, aka Chief

Rich has been apart of Otis fire and ems since the late 90s when the ambulance and fire were both volunteer services!

Rich had stayed current with his EMT licensing and has served as Fire Chief for the last 8 years!

About a year ago Rich made a career move from his job of 25 years as a maintenance man to full time EMS, a job we joking call his “retirement gig”

Rich has spent many years teaching the ins and outs of both fire and ems to the new line of firefighters and EMTs and we are grateful for all he has done and continues to do!
