Delayed:
Chimney Fire – Town of Otis

Date/Time: Approximately 6:10 AM 11/13/25
Location: Town of Otis

At approximately 6:10 AM yesterday morning, the Otis Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a possible chimney fire.

Upon arrival of Otis Car 1, it was determined that the fire had extended rapidly into the structure, prompting an upgrade to a working structure fire. Additional manpower and apparatus were requested from both Otis and Monterey Fire Department.

Responding units included:

•Otis Fire: Engine 1, Engine 2, Rescue 1, Tanker 1, Otis Ambulance

•Monterey Fire: Truck 172, Engine 177, Squad 17

The first-arriving Otis apparatus deployed an attack line and made an aggressive interior attack, quickly applying water and preventing further fire spread throughout the residence.

Otis and Monterey personnel worked together to deploy ladders and gain roof access to send chains down the chimney

As additional personnel and equipment arrived on scene, crews continued with fire suppression and conducted an extensive overhaul of the interior to ensure complete extinguishment.

Due to the coordinated efforts and hard work of both the Otis and Monterey Fire Departments, the fire was brought under control around 7:40am. All units cleared the scene and returned to service at approximately 9:43am.

OFD will be slingin’ hotdogs and kielbasa in the center of town tomorrow October 12 11a-3p as long as the rain holds off. Stop on down, shoot the breeze, grab some roller meats, and meet some members of the department. Let us know if you recognize the cart we are using. Hint: it’s a staple in Otis history 🌭

All outdoor fires, including camp fires are currently banned in the Town of Otis per the Fire Chief due to drought conditions.

With below-average rainfall over the past three months, most of Massachusetts is in Level 2 - Significant Drought status. Outdoor fires will start and spread more easily. Let's work together to prevent a recurrence of last year's unprecedented fall fire season. Learn more from the Drought Management Task Force: https://ow.ly/gJlk50WW9WZ
