Air Quality alert from Canadian wildfire smoke through Thursday at this time.
⚠️ STATEWIDE Air Quality Alert for Michigan⚠️
Wildfire smoke from Canada is expected to impact the entire state on Wednesday, July 15, prompting EGLE to issue a statewide Air Quality Alert for elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5).
Air quality may reach Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups across much of the Lower Peninsula and Unhealthy in parts of the Upper Peninsula.
⚠️ There is a strong possibility the alert will be extended through Thursday as wildfire smoke lingers.
If possible, limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially if you have asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions. Watch for symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, dizziness, or irritation of the eyes, nose, or throat.
To help reduce additional air pollution:
◼ Avoid outdoor burning.
◼ Limit use of residential wood-burning devices.
To reduce smoke indoors:
◼ Keep windows and doors closed.
◼ Run central air conditioning if available, using a MERV 13 or higher filter when possible.
Air quality forecasts may change throughout the week as smoke conditions evolve.
