MORE BOOTS ON THE GROUND: Second Crew Deploying to Superior National Forest 🚒💧
The situation in northern Minnesota continues to demand all hands on deck, and we're answering the call again. Tomorrow morning we're sending an additional crew with our water tender to support ongoing firefighting efforts in Superior National Forest.
As the wildfire battle continues, specialized equipment like water tenders become critical assets on the fireline. These mobile water sources allow firefighters to refill engines, create defensive wet lines, and support mop-up operations.
This deployment means our company will have multiple teams working to protect one of Minnesota's most treasured wilderness areas. We couldn't be prouder of our crew members who stepped up without hesitation, putting their expertise to work where it's needed most.
Our thoughts remain with all the firefighters working tirelessly in challenging conditions, the residents facing evacuation, and the wildlife that calls these forests home. The road ahead may be long, but Minnesotans have always come together in times of crisis.

Members of our dedicated fire crew are heading out today to support wildfire suppression efforts in Superior National Forest here in Minnesota.

While we typically use fire as a restoration tool through our prescribed burn program, our team's expertise also makes them valuable first responders when wildfires threaten our northern forests and communities.

We're proud that our firefighters can contribute their specialized skills to protect this treasured wilderness area during a challenging fire season. Their training in fire behavior, safety protocols, and teamwork makes them an asset on any fire line.

Please join us in wishing our crew a safe deployment as they work to safeguard one of Minnesota's most precious natural resources.

Proud to have been the team behind this successful prescribed burn for our partners at DU! 🔥
As fire ecology experts, we understand that controlled burns aren't just about managing vegetation - they're about restoring natural cycles that benefit the entire ecosystem. This particular burn will help create prime habitat for breeding waterfowl while promoting native grass diversity.
Our team carefully plans each prescribed fire to ensure maximum ecological benefit with minimal risk. The prairie evolved with fire, and reintroducing this natural process is one of the most effective restoration tools we have.
Looking forward to watching this site transform over the next few seasons!

The flame... the flame never dies.
The prairie’s remains from successful growing seasons offer the fuel that drives this uninhibited and enigmatic element. What’s left behind is not a land scorched, damaged, or destroyed — the true value lies below the ground, in the roots of perennials that welcome bare earth. It is then that the great fire in the sky lovingly shines upon them.

2025 certainly hasn’t been a cold start, with prescribed burns taking place all across the Upper Midwest. We’ll continue through burn season, offering a natural phenomenon that native plants have evolved to embrace.

🔥 Fire is used to restore, maintain and control invasive species in prairie and savanna ecosystems. Over the past month, Anoka County Parks have conducted multiple prescribed burns throughout the parks system with contractor Red Rock Fire.

The first of the season was conducted on February 6 in Bunker Hills Regional Park and noted as the earliest recorded prescribed burn for the parks due to the favorable dry and warm winter.

Our crew at Bunker Lake Park in C**n Rapids saw a fox running through the black after a successful prescribed burn today.

Prescribed burning benefits foxes. By creating a diverse habitat, it provides more food sources for foxes, such as small mammals and insects. The removal of dead vegetation through burning also improves visibility for hunting. So, it helps foxes thrive in their natural environment! 🦊🔥🌿

It's hard to believe there is even an opportunity to burn in February in Minnesota!

We are taking advantage of the dry conditions to get a head start on our spring burn season! 🔥

People might think that prescribed fire harms wildlife populations, but that's not true at all. Prescribed fire actually mimics a natural process that is essential for the native ecosystems in Minnesota, benefiting our wildlife. 🔥

And when it comes to turkeys, did you know that most hen turkeys prefer to nest in thick grassy areas with minimal brush? This provides them with camouflage and a sense of security. By using prescribed fire, we can remove unwanted brush and create more habitat for nesting, leading to an increase in the turkey population. So, it's a win-win situation for both the turkeys and the ecosystem! 🦃🌱

There’s a reason Innovation is one of MNL’s core values. Collaborating on restoration projects and discovering innovative and imaginative solutions is often necessary to get the job done! Here MNL and Red Rock Fire crews completed a prescribed burn of a wetland and enhanced spaces with a custom native seed mix using amphibious equipment, creating minimal impact on the sensitive environment.

In the Great Lakes region, Native Americans have been intentionally using fire for thousands of years to help manage the ecosystem. It's amazing to see how they had such a deep, reciprocal relationship with the land and recognized the role that the fire played in maintaining that connection. There's a short film called "Oshkigin: Spirit of Fire" that highlights this incredible relationship and the significance of fire in their culture. It's a great watch! 🌱🔥
