You can assist our responders by staying at home. The extra traffic is slowing down responses and repairs. There are multiple power lines down that you may not see in the dark.

🔥 Reminder: Following yesterday’s prescribed and intentional burning, please take the time to ensure your fire remains contained and does not escape and become a wildfire.

Firefighters across Kansas put their lives on the line every day to protect homes, communities, and livelihoods. Many of these individuals are dedicated volunteers who serve without compensation.

Before igniting any fire, have a plan in place for worst-case scenarios and be prepared to respond quickly if conditions change.

🔥🚒 Recently, members of the Ottawa Fire Department successfully completed their annual Wildland Work Capacity Test (also known as the “Red Card” certification)!

Maintaining a current Red Card ensures our firefighters are ready to respond to state and national wildfire incidents when called upon. 💪🌲

This certification isn’t easy—it requires both training and physical endurance. In addition to online coursework, participants must complete a demanding field test:
✔️ Walk 3 miles in under 45 minutes while carrying a 45-pound pack
✔️ Properly deploy a fire shelter in under 20 seconds

We’re proud of the dedication and commitment our team shows to staying prepared and protecting communities near and far. Please join us in congratulating these hardworking individuals! 👏🔥

Due to multiple water main breaks throughout the City, some residents will be without water or may have low pressure until the leak can be isolated and repaired. More information will be shared as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience as we work through this situation.
