**Update (6:30 PM): Road 12 and Road E are now open and power is back on. Thank you for everyone's patience.

PRESS RELEASE-2:00 PM 8/29/26

At 10:01 AM today’s date Putnam County 9-1-1 received a call reporting an injury rollover accident at the intersection of Road E and Road 12 in Liberty Township. A flat-bed pick-up truck pulling a small trailer was westbound on Road E, driven by Hector Moreno, Gainesville, FL. Mr. Moreno struck a southbound SUV driven by Nancy Niese, Miller City, causing her vehicle to strike a utility pole and roll over. Mrs. Niese had to be extricated from her vehicle by Miller City Fire Department and was taken to Mercy Health St. Rita’s, Lima by Leipsic EMS. Mr. Moreno and his two passengers refused transport on scene. Mr. Moreno was cited for Failure to Yield. The intersection is still currently closed pending repairs to the utility pole and power will need to be cut in the area while they make repairs in the next few hours. Assisting at the scene was Ottawa Heavy Rescue, Putnam County EMS, Paulding Putnam Electric, and Kuhlman Auto Sales and Towing.

IPAWS Wireless Alerting System was activated for a natural gas leak outside of Fort Jennings in the 17000 block of SR 190. The alert from IPAWS was inadvertently selected to the entire county. If you are not within a 1/4 mile of this location, no actions need to be taken.

Be advised, there is a large natural gas leak in the 17000 block of SR 190. Please avoid the area.
