➡Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands.
➡You can drop-off your unused prescription drugs during Drug Take Back Day on April 30 or anytime at Putnam County OH Sheriffs Office front lobby in the drug drop off box.
➡Only solid prescription pills, powders, and patches in containers are accepted
The best way to prevent tickborne diseases is to prevent tick bites. In Ohio, tickborne illnesses are most common from early spring through late fall since ticks are most active during warm months. #BeTICKSmart

This year, the Council on Aging, along with partnering agencies, will be celebrating OAM by hosting a luncheon along with entertainment by the Country Gentlemen on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from Noon to 2:00 pm at the Kalida K of C Hall.

In a world where alcohol is often glamorized and even encouraged, it can be hard to identify when your drinking habits may be more than just casual consumption.
First, it’s important to recognize the different types of drinking and how to differentiate them.
Alcoholism: a dependency or addiction to alcohol has developed
Alcohol abuse: a pattern of drinking excessively, despite negative consequences

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. From 2017 through 2021, there were 64,108 crashes in Ohio that involved one or more drivers who were distracted by something within their vehicle. Of these, 206 were fatal crashes that resulted in 226 deaths.

Water. We use it every day without thinking about it. Turn a lever and water flows, hands are cleaned, drinks are taken, and clothes are washed. It seems so simple, yet, for many, the search for safe water is a problem. PCHD can sample residents’ water for various contaminants such as nitrites, nitrates, coliform (bacteria) or lead for a fee. Putnam County Health Department offers the Children with Medical Handicaps (CMH) Program. This program assists families in obtaining services to diagnose a medical condition and assists with ongoing services for children with an eligible medical condition and financial qualification. In 2021, PCHD nurse’s assisted 150 clients through the program. #NationalPublicHealthWeek

In an emergency, many systems we rely on may not function as well as they usually do. Utilities like electricity, water, gas and phone service may be disrupted. Child restraint systems are often used incorrectly. An estimated 46% of car seats and booster seats are misused in a way that could reduce their effectiveness. PCHD has two certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST). CPST can check all car seats to ensure they are installed in your vehicle correctly. Did you know that if you are bitten by a dog or other mammal, the incident is required to be reported to the health department?
If you visit a health care provider for a bite, they are required to report the bite incident. When the report is made, the health department will then follow-up with the animal owner, if possible, concerning the incident. There were 45 animal bites investigated in 2021. #NationalPublicHealthWeek
The second COVID-19 booster is now available at Putnam County Health Department.
People can receive a 2nd booster if they are:
🟡50 years and older, or
🟡12-50 years and immunocompromised
🟡There needs to be at least 4 months since last booster

Abby assists individuals with birth and death certificates, registering deaths and monitoring vital statistics in the county, along with many other responsibilities.
