In Case You Missed It...Highlights from the June 10, 2026 Board of County Commissioners Meeting

The Board of County Commissioners approved the consent agenda and received an update from Rebecca McFarland with the Frontier Extension District.

Commissioners also approved:
• Rezoning application #2602-0072 (Jackson) to rezone approximately 3.00 acres from Residential Estate (R-E) to Single Family Residential Three Acre (R-3A).
• Rezoning application #2603-0074 (Barnes) to rezone approximately 30.01 acres from Transitional Agriculture (A-2) to Agriculture (A-1).
• Special Use Permit application #2604-0013 for the operation of a greenhouse and nursery in a Residential Estate (R-E) zoning district.
• Acceptance of dedications for the Final Plat of Fiehler's Fields.
• Acceptance of dedications for the Final Plat of Jackson Acres.

Staff reports:
• Franklin County was selected to receive approximately $1.8 million in KDOT funding to replace the bridge on Indiana Road south of Sand Creek. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2028.
• The John Brown Road Bridge replacement project continues to move forward. Final plans have been received, and construction could begin within the next 60 to 90 days, pending state approval.

The Board of County Commissioners will meet at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, June 10, in the Commission Chambers. The agenda includes:

• An update from the Frontier Extension District.

In Case You Missed It...Highlights from the June 3, 2026 Board of County Commissioners Meeting

✓ Approved the consent agenda, including claim vouchers, tax change orders, payroll, meeting minutes, and the March EMS operational and financial reports

✓ Approved the purchase of a used 2022 Dodge Durango from the Kansas Highway Patrol for EMS.

✓ Approved repairs to the wind trash screens at the Transfer Station.

✓ Approved a contract with Complete Pavement Maintenance Inc. to perform crack sealing on approximately 17 miles of hard-surface County roads.

Staff Reports

• Solid Waste/Transfer Station: Staff discussed holiday operations at the Transfer Station and recommended remaining open on Friday, July 3 (observed holiday), and closing Saturday, July 4, to better align with public expectations and service needs, pending any HR considerations.

• Public Works: Ongoing wet conditions continue to create challenges on County roads, including road failures, culvert issues, and potholes. Public Works crews are actively working to repair problem areas throughout the County and appreciate your patience as they continue these efforts.
