Scattered storms coming from southern Nebraska into northern KS this morning will have an impact on how the rest of today goes. Areas that see clouds and rain linger will stay cooler, while areas that stay clear should heat up into the 90s. Today brings partly cloudy skies with temperatures near average in the 80s. One more day of hot and humid conditions before noticeable improvement. Cloud cover may help some of northern KS today, but most should still expect heat indices in the triple digits. Sunday and Monday will still feel muggy, but cooler temperatures will make it more manageable. The high heat persists with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect through Friday evening. Heat indices to around 110 degrees are expected each afternoon. 🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL — SLOW DOWN, STAY ALERT! 🚌

School is back, and that means more kids, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians sharing our roads.

🚗 Drivers:
• Slow down in school zones and obey posted speed limits.
• Stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
• Watch carefully for children crossing the street or walking near traffic.
• Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.
• Give buses plenty of room and be patient when they stop frequently.

🚶 Students & Pedestrians:
• Use crosswalks and designated crossing areas whenever possible.
• Look both ways before crossing the street.
• Stay alert and avoid distractions when walking near traffic.

🚲 Bicyclists:
• Wear a properly fitted helmet.
• Ride in the direction of traffic and obey traffic signs.
• Use extra caution around driveways, intersections, and school drop-off areas.

A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference.

The heat is the highlight of the week as highs are generally in the middle and upper 90s. Peak heat indices range around 100 to 105 each afternoon. A nearby cold front increases rain chances by mid week with highest chances for showers and storms on Thursday evening.
