Help First Responders Find You!

Did you know there’s a simple app that can help first responders locate you faster in an emergency?

📱 What3Words divides the entire world into 3-meter squares and gives each location its own unique combination of three words. This can be especially helpful at Starved Rock State Park, where trails, canyons, overlooks, and wooded areas can make it difficult to describe exactly where you are.

If you’re hiking, exploring, or enjoying our state park, consider downloading the What3Words app before you go.

In an emergency:
• Open What3Words
• Find your current 3-word location
• Provide it to 911/dispatch
• Share any additional information you can, such as the trail you’re on or a nearby landmark.

Knowing your exact location can help emergency responders get to you faster and more efficiently.

👉Download What3Words and be prepared before heading out!

Know your location. Know your surroundings. Stay safe.

Lorraine McCallister, President of Ottawa's Reddick Mansion Association, is presenting a program at Graves-Hume Public Library in Mendota tomorrow, Tuesday, August 25th at 6 pm. If you have a free evening, it's bound to be a great program!

Reminder! 📚✨

Tuesday, August 25 at 6 PM!

Our FREE program is one you definitely won’t want to miss!
Mark your calendar and bring a friend! 🎉

In this sesquicentennial year, the focus has naturally been on those brave patriots who founded our country. Fifty years later, descendants of those same patriots fed by their “hunger for land and an irresistible wanderlust,” came west to Illinois and
founded what became LaSalle County. Hear the stories of these brave pioneers who settled our county, township by township.

Presented by Lorraine McCallister, president of the Reddick Mansion Association in Ottawa, Illinois, this presentation will also include the story of pioneer Elsie Strawn Armstrong, told in the first-person. Leaving her husband behind in Ohio, Elsie
came to LaSalle County in 1831 with her seven sons. In her later years, she recorded her memories in verse, several of which Elsie will share as she tells her story.

Thank You for an Amazing Summer!

Wallace Township Library would like to say a heartfelt Thank You to everyone who helped make our Open House and Summer Reading Program such a wonderful success!

It was exciting to see so many people visiting the library, participating in activities, reading, and discovering everything the library has to offer. Your enthusiasm and support mean a great deal to us.

And we’re growing! Our collection has expanded remarkably fast, with a wide variety of books and materials now filling our shelves. We’re also working on new programs, resources, and ideas to offer even more to our community.

There is plenty more to come — more programs, more activities, more books, and more ways to use your library.

We’d also love to hear from you! Is there a program you’d like to see at the library? Do you have an idea for an activity, class, club, or community event? Are you part of a local group or organization that could benefit from using the library’s space or resources? Tell us! We want Wallace Township Library to be a resource that grows around the needs and ideas of our community.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who has visited, participated, donated, volunteered, spread the word, or supported Wallace Township Library. We’re excited about where the library is headed, and we’re glad you’re part of it.

Keep watching for what’s coming next, stop in often to see what’s new — and don’t be afraid to bring us your ideas!
