Human Resources Director

Salary Range: $84,703.59 - $106,879.49 (Exempt)

About the Role:
The Human Resources Director leads all aspects of the County’s HR functions supporting employees and departments through employee relations, recruitment, benefits, compensation, training, and policy development. You’ll guide programs that strengthen culture, improve communication, and ensure consistent, compliant practices.

This position reports to the County Manager.

What You’ll Do:
Maintain accurate personnel records and manage employee lifecycle documentation
Lead recruitment, selection support, and retention efforts aligned with County priorities
Advise leaders and employees; conduct workplace investigations and support resolution
Administer compensation and classification activities, including job descriptions and salary actions
Manage benefits programs, enrollment, and employee support (including workers’ compensation)
Monitor HR laws/regulations and recommend policy updates to reduce risk and ensure compliance
Coordinate performance appraisal processes and staff training initiatives

What We’re Looking For:
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree + 3 years of Human Resources experience
Certification: SHRM certification preferred
Knowledge: HR laws, regulations, and public personnel administration best practices
Communication: Strong written and verbal skills; able to build trust across the organization
Collaboration: Effective in diverse workplaces and sensitive, high-stakes situations

Join EcoAction Partners on Thursday, June 11th for a full day training on designing and building to the Low Energy & Carbon Code. This code has been adopted by the Town of Ridgway, Colo. with an enforcement date of July 1, 2026 and Ouray and San Miguel Counties are working toward adoption this summer.

Who: Building Community for Ouray, San Juan, and San Miguel Counties
When: June 11th, 9am-5pm, 1 hour lunch
Where: Ridgway Town Hall and Zoom
What: In partnership with our regional building departments and with funding from the Colorado Energy Office, EcoAction Partners is offering this one-time only, FREE training on the Low Energy and Carbon Code (LECC).
Why: The LECC is Colorado's version of the 2024 IECC, and is under consideration for adoption across our region. The LECC maintains affordability for moderate sized homes, is designed to be fuel-neutral, and incorporates Colorado's model Electric-ready and Solar-ready code. Come learn what you need to know in order to design, plan and build to meet the requirements of this energy code. Note: After June 30, all jurisdictions will be required by the state to adopt this code when performing any other code updates. The LECC provides guidance for designing and building homes in our cold climate to ensure their efficiency and longevity.

Ouray County:

The San Juan National Forest has planned a prescribed fire north of Dolores, CO tomorrow, May 20, for 1,660 acres. They expect to finish burning tomorrow but the smoke will likely linger through our valley for a day or two, before clearing out.

From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Ouray County will conduct a Full-Scale Evacuation Exercise utilizing county-wide resources. Residents can expect to see significant first responder activity in and around the Town of Ridgway and Ouray County Fairgrounds & Event Center during this time.
⚠️ This is only an exercise. There is no real emergency. Please do not call 9-1-1

Reminder: Emergency Evacuation Exercise Tomorrow, May 15.

Ouray County Emergency Management and Ouray County Sheriff's Office:

This is a reminder of our full-scale emergency evacuation exercise tomorrow May 15, 2026. This exercise will begin at approximately 9AM and concluding at approximately 2PM.

Only one neighborhood in Ouray County (Elk Meadows) will be involved in this exercise, not the City of Ouray, nor the Town of Ridgway.

However, if you are in the Ridgway area between 9AM and 2PM on Friday, you will likely hear and see first responder vehicles and see activity at the Ouray County Fairgrounds & Event Center. Please remember, this is only an exercise!

We appreciate all the help in spreading correct information to our community members and visitors.
