🚨 SWATTING ALERT! 🚨
Earlier this evening, the Sheriff's Office received what is believed to be a swatting call which alerted law enforcement to respond to a location on Main Street in Ouray. After deputies responded, it was deemed to be a false report, or "swatting." There is no threat to the public.

Swatting is not a prank - IT'S A CRIME!

❓ What is Swatting? Swatting is a form of criminal harassment that involves deceiving an emergency service (via such means as hoaxing an emergency services dispatcher) into sending a police or emergency response team to another person's location.

Have you gotten complacent with all the warm weather lately? Here’s your reminder about winter driving on the steep streets in and around Ouray. Even with plowing and sanding, steep grades can make traction tricky and have been known to cause fender benders.

A few tips to help you stay safe:
✅ Drive slowly and give yourself extra stopping distance.
✅ Use 4WD or AWD whenever possible.
✅ Avoid sudden braking or acceleration on sloped areas.
✅ Be cautious or avoid parking along the west side of Main Street — snow and ice can make it hard to exit parking spots safely.

Finally, from September through May, Colorado’s Passenger Traction & Chain Law is in effect:
🚗 2WD vehicles: Must use chains or approved alternate traction devices (ATDs).
🚙 4WD/AWD vehicles: Need all-weather or Mountain-Snowflake (M+S / M=S / M/S) tires with adequate tread, or carry chains/ATDs.

Winter driving in a mountain town requires extra care. A little caution goes a long way toward keeping everyone safe on the road.

🚗❄️ Parking might get tight this week with more people in town for Ice Fest and snow coming over the weekend.

To help our Public Works crew safely and effectively remove snow, certain blocks along Main Street have designated no-parking days each week.

This schedule applies to the Commercial District from 8th Avenue (top of the map) down to 4th Avenue (bottom of the map).

Here’s how the colors on the map break down:
🔵 Monday
🟢 Tuesday
🟡 Wednesday
🔴 Thursday

On your block’s assigned day, please avoid parking in the highlighted zone so crews can fully clear snow, improve visibility, and prevent buildup that can freeze into hazardous ice.
