Girls volleyball kicked off the season tonight as our Cougars hosted Wolf Springs at Lakewood!

Our students brought the NOISE! One of the loudest volleyball crowds we’ve ever had.

HOW DO YOU MAKE THE PERFECT PIECE OF TOAST?

Our 6th graders are learning that sometimes the simplest tasks require some pretty complex thinking.

Today, they put their own flowcharts and algorithms to the test, giving step-by-step instructions and adjusting their thinking based on the results.

Precision. Problem-solving. Collaboration. A little trial and error.

And yes… they got to eat the toast!

FIST BUMP FRIDAY!
We made it through our first full week! A few extra staff members and some of our volleyball girls joined us this morning to greet students with music, fist bumps, and a little extra Friday energy. Sometimes you don’t need a reason to celebrate…you just do it!

THE LAKEWOOD ESSENTIAL SERIES - 03 - FUN

Middle school is important. There’s learning to do, challenges to face, and plenty of hard work along the way.

But it should also be FUN.

Sometimes that means stepping outside your comfort zone, trying something new, laughing at yourself, and being willing to have a little FUN.

That’s exactly what our staff did with a surprise flash mob on the first day of school.

We wanted to kick off the year with FUN, but also show our students that it’s okay to let loose, laugh at yourself, and enjoy the moments along the way.

FUN is essential.

THE LAKEWOOD ESSENTIAL SERIES - 02 - CONNECTION

Middle school can feel like a big step. New school. New teachers. New faces. A lot of new.

So, during their first week at Lakewood, every single 6th grader received a handwritten postcard from a member of our staff.

A simple note to say, “Welcome to Lakewood. We’re glad you’re here. You belong here.”

Sometimes, something that simple can make a big difference.

Nash and Evie shared how receiving a handwritten postcard helped them feel more welcomed, comfortable, and ready to start their Lakewood journey.

Because CONNECTION starts with making people feel seen, known, and welcomed.

CONNECTION is essential.

THE LAKEWOOD ESSENTIAL SERIES - 01 - COMMUNITY

There’s a lot that matters in middle school. But when things get busy, complicated, or challenging, it helps to know what matters most.

This year, we’ve identified 3 essentials that we believe should always be part of the Lakewood experience:

-CONNECTION
-COMMUNITY
-FUN

These are the things we’ll keep coming back to all year long.

So, let’s start with COMMUNITY.

If you’ve walked through Lakewood lately, you may have noticed some new additions to our hallways. Our staff created banners together on the first day back, and they’re now hanging throughout our building.
COMMUNITY isn’t just something we talk about. You should be able to see it, feel it, and be a part of it.

COMMUNITY is essential.

And just like that… the 2026–27 school year is officially underway!

Our Cougars kicked things off with a high-energy opening assembly full of games, laughs, school spirit, and even a surprise staff flash mob!

Welcome to Lakewood, Class of 2033!

The red carpet was rolled out, the music cranked up, and our newest Cougars officially stepped into middle school.

We’re so glad you’re here, 6th grade! Let’s make it a great year!
