Texas Gumbo Cook-Off This is an open competition for Gumbo chefs. Register early for the $500 First Prize Gumbo. Great Gumbo, Cajun Band, Desserts, and Loads of Fun.

The Official Texas Gumbo Cook-Off is an open competition for Gumbo chefs of every skill level. The event is held annually on the first Saturday of March. All combining of ingredients must be done on site. Chefs are allowed to begin anytime after 12:01 am. A minimum of 3 gallons of gumbo must be cooked for competition. 16 ounces will be collected for judging. Judging begins at 11:00am. Each gumbo

will be judged as the chef desires to serve it; such as with or without rice. A secondary contest is also held for Beans & Rice. The same basic rules apply for this competition. For 2014, a new competition has been added for desserts. The contest includes; cakes, pies, cookies and specialty desserts. Also for 2014, there will be an antique tractor exhibit. The atmosphere is enhanced each year by a Cajun band. This year's band is "Bayou Boogie".
