Message from the Chief:
Another topic that might need some clarification for our citizens is the Ovilla City Ordinance relating to LOUD MUSIC / NOISE DISTURBANCES. The entire ordinance is posted on the City website under Nuisances and Noise, Article 8.03. In summary, it states that any music should NOT be plainly audible fifty feet from it’s source. In most circumstances, this means if you are playing loud music at your residence, your neighbors should NOT be able to plainly hear your music in their yards, on their porches, and especially not inside their homes.
In addition, the ordinance says if the above loud music is occurring between 11PM and 6AM, it is Prima Facie evidence of the violation. This DOES NOT mean it is only a violation between those hours. It can be a violation at any time of day or night if the loud music or noise disturbs the “peace, quiet, and comfort” of the neighboring inhabitants.
If you have any questions about this ordinance, or any other Ovilla Police matter, please feel free to contact me. J. Bennett, Chief of Police / [email protected]

The Waxahachie Police Department is deeply troubled regarding the safety and wellbeing of Tanya Jackson, an 11-year old female last seen in the 2300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Dallas, Texas. An Amber Alert has been issued and we are asking the public to contact their local authorities or call 9-1-1 immediately if you should see her. We would like to thank the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Homeland Security Investigations North Texas Trafficking Task Force, Dallas Police Department, our area Child Advocacy Center, and the local branch of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services with whom we have been working throughout this investigation. Please reshare.

Message from the Chief:
Just a few words to hopefully clear up any questions about the City of Ovilla’s Ordinance regarding FIREWORKS.
It is illegal to discharge fireworks anywhere within the City limits of Ovilla at any time. Recently there have been comments on people being allowed to discharge them at certain locations, such as in the Glen Eagles housing addition. That is correct, because Glen Eagles in not within Ovilla’s City limits, it is simply Ellis County.
Our officers have already issued several citations for illegally discharging fireworks this week and will continue to do so, when needed. Some of our neighboring Cities not only have the same ordinance, but have fine amounts of $1500 to $2000 per citation. I have requested our Courts look into raising our fine amounts to something comparable.
🇺🇲We want to wish everyone a safe and happy !
🇺🇲
As we approach the weekend, we want to remind our great citizens that discharging fi****ms and/or fireworks is illegal in the city limits. Please be considerate of your fellow neighbors! Please be safe, drink responsibly, and have a great weekend! 🇺🇲 🇺🇲

‼️FENTANYL ALERT‼️
For any parents who aren’t aware, the drug FENTANYL is a huge part of our State’s OPIOID crisis.
FENTANYL is an extremely addictive OPIOID and is 50 times more powerful than HE**IN. In 2021, more than 77% of all adolescent overdose related deaths were contributed to FENTANYL. Just this past weekend in Ovilla, there was an incident where a 15-year-old girl overdosed from smoking MA*****NA intentionally laced with FENTANYL. The girl required CPR and was transported to the hospital where she is recovering. The girl purposely smoked the MA*****NA laced with FENTANYL for the increased high. Upon speaking with the girl’s parents and the parents of another 15-year-old girl who was present, they admitted BOTH girls had overdosed several times in the past. In this instance, if there had not been someone at the residence to call first responders, the girl would have likely died.
While we as a police department will take whatever action we can to prevent the distribution of FENTANYL, there is just so much we can do. Not to make light of the use of any illegal substance, but MA*****NA is MA*****NA, still illegal but typically a low misdemeanor offense to possess. MA*****NA laced with FENTANYL is one of the most highly addictive and dangerous substances currently being abused and is a felony to possess. No parent should be accepting of their child using a narcotic 50 times more potent than HE**IN and 100 times more potent than MORPHINE.
