Our deepest condolences to everyone at the Houston Police Department. R.I.P Senior Police Officer Jeffrey.

It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the death of Senior Police Officer William "Bill" Jeffrey. He was fatally shot this morning while serving a felony warrant in Harris County. Officer Jeffrey, 54, joined HPD in December of 1990 and was assigned to the Major Offenders Division for almost 13 years. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later time.

Sgt. Michael Vance, 49, was also shot while serving the felony warrant. He remains in stable condition at a Houston hospital. Sgt. Vance joined HPD in June of 1998 and has been in the Major Offenders Division for the past 2 years. Due to the undercover nature of Sgt. Vance's assignment, HPD will not be releasing his department photo.

***HERITAGE DAY CANCELLED / POSTPONED***

The OVILLA HERITAGE DAY PARADE and CELEBRATION scheduled for September 25, 2021, has been cancelled. We hope to possibly re-schedule the event for later this year or early Spring 2022.
We offer a sincere thank you to all of those who already signed up to participate in this year’s event. Unfortunately, with the COVID-19 numbers clearly on the rise in Ellis County, it was decided holding the event may unnecessarily place our citizens and City employees at risk of possible COVID-19 exposure.
We also give thanks and commend our City Council and Mayor for supporting the difficult decision to cancel this event. Keeping in mind our primary duty is to ensure our City employees and emergency services are available to serve our citizens, it was unanimously agreed a cancellation / postponement was the best action at this time.
Lastly, but surely not least, we sincerely thank Doug Hunt (City Councilmember / Mayor Pro tem) and Emily Starkey (Police Department) for all their exhaustive efforts to plan and coordinate this event.
Thank you again to everyone involved and we hope to re-schedule this event for the near future!

We hope everyone has a safe and #HappyLaborDay!

“‪It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the loss of another officer from our APD family, Senior Police Officer Randolph “Randy” Boyd,” APD Interim Chief of Police Joseph Chacon said.

“After a valiant fight against COVID-19, he succumbed to this horrible virus this morning. He is survived by his wife and young twin boys. Randy was a great officer who gave everything he had for a life of service. He joined APD in 2014 and served on patrol for the length of his APD career. Please keep Randy and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Honor his memory by taking precautions to stay safe.‬”
