Happy Halloween! Looking for some healthy Halloween treats? check out this one...

Cracker Critters

2 round crackers
¼ stick of celery cut into strips
1 tsp peanut butter
2 raisins (for the eyes)

Put a teaspoon of peanut butter on one side of each cracker. Put 8 strips of celery on one of the peanut buttered crackers (so they stick out like legs). Then put the other cracker on top of the peanut butter and celery to make a sandwich put a dab of peanut butter on each raisin and put them on top of the sandwich to make the eyes

Looking for a ghoulish Halloween treat?! Try making banana ghosts! All you need is a banana, Popsicle sticks, Greek yogurt and some chocolate chips! cut the banana in half, insert a Popsicle stick into the cut end. Coat the banana in Greek yogurt, add two chocolate chips for the eyes and one for the mouth and then place on a non stick surface and freeze. For an added treat, after adding the Greek yogurt, coat the banana in unsweetened coconut.

Tioga County will be celebrating it's 4th Food Day Event on Oct. 24 at the Owego Elk's Lodge. Hands on activities and food demonstrations will take place.

The Peach Salsa was a hit at today's farmers market- give and try and see what you think:
Peach Salsa with Lime Juice and Honey

Ingredients:

4 small peaches, peeled and diced
Juice of 2 limes, about 1/4 cup juice
2 teaspoons honey
2 to 3 tablespoons diced red bell pepper
1 tablespoon finely minced jalapeno pepper, or to taste
1 heaping tablespoon chopped cilantro
1 small clove garlic, finely minced
2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion or sweet onion

Directions:
Combine all ingredients and refrigerate until serving time. The flavors are best if the salsa is refrigerated for 4 hours or overnight.

It might be September- and leaves might be falling off trees but the selection at the Tioga County Farmers Markets is still growing! In season this month are: peppers, potatoes, pumpkin, radishes, beets, raspberries, melons, Swiss Chard, winter and summer squash, and much more!
