Our newest firefighters continued their training throughout the week, building the skills necessary to safely and effectively serve our community. Training topics included ladder operations, hose deployment, as well as firefighter survival and rescue skills.
Additionally, on August 7, firefighters from DCFD and Airport Sorgho FD responded to a medical emergency on the Ohio River near the Owensboro Riverport involving personnel on a barge. OFD was requested to assist with the response.
DCFD personnel launched Rescue Boat 2 from the Little Hurricane boat ramp. Upon arriving at the vessel, the boat was secured to the barge and patient contact was made.
DCFD and OFD personnel assisted the patient down two flights of stairs and onto the barge. The patient was then transferred to OFD’s rescue boat and transported to English Park, where they were transferred to the care of AMR.
This incident was a great example of multi-agency cooperation and teamwork. The successful response was made possible through the coordination and professionalism of everyone involved.
We would like to thank Airport Sorgho Fire Department, Owensboro Fire Department, AMR - Owensboro, KY, and all other personnel and agencies who assisted with this response.
Stay safe, and thank you for your continued support of DCFD!
