From October 12, 2026- October, 18 2026 DCFD responded to 84 calls for service, including:

53 Medical Responses
7 Motor Vehicle Accidents
6 Fire Alarms
1 Field Fire
1 Structure Fire
3 Vehicle Fires
13 Miscellaneous

Calls for service were up 15% from last week, including 10 additional medical calls, a working structure fire, and multiple vehicle fires.

This week’s training focused heavily on pump operations, especially drafting. 1st crew, East Station, had the opportunity to test out a turbo draft setup, thanks to Atlantic Emergency Solutions.

We are always looking for the latest technology and equipment to enhance our capabilities and better serve the citizens of Daviess County!

We also want to remind everyone that the groundbreaking ceremony for our new Public Safety Facility is happening this Friday! The facility will house DCFD’s third station and represents an exciting step forward in our
ability to serve the community.

It was a busy week of collaboration at DCFD!

Last week, we thanked neighboring departments and outside agencies for their assistance on critical calls. This week, we had the opportunity to return the favor.

On Thursday, October 8, DCFD was called to assist the Owensboro Fire Department with the large fire at Cargill in downtown Owensboro. Our firefighters assisted with fire attack, ventilation, and aerial operations to access and help extinguish the fire. DCFD crews were on scene for approximately four hours. Pictured are two of our personnel operating on OFD Ladder 5 (thanks Owensboro Times and several others for the pictures!). We appreciate OFD’s call for assistance and the opportunity to support our neighbors!

We were also honored to host our friends and colleagues from the Czech Republic through the Owensboro Sister Cities and Regions exchange program. Our own firefighter, Pavel Zboril, plays a vital role in this program’s continued success. Thank you, Pavel, for your hard work and dedication! Our guests trained alongside DCFD firefighters in rescue task force (RTF) operations and rope rescue.

Finally, Fire Prevention Week is officially wrapped up! Firefighters from 2nd Crew at East Station helped teach local kids how to prevent fires at home and stay safe around fire. We also hope you learned a thing or two from our videos on safe charging!

Rope rescue training in action!

It was a fun week training alongside firefighters from Olomouc, Czech Republic! From Rescue Task Force training to rope rescue and more, we made the most of our time training together. We look forward to seeing our friends again soon!

Update as of 4:53 p.m.: Both lanes are now open.

The Natcher Parkway (I-165) southbound is currently closed in both lanes at mile marker 6500, under the Masonville Habit Road overpass, due to an accident involving three vehicles and injuries.

Traffic is stopped, and the closure is expected to last approximately one hour. Motorists should expect delays and seek an alternate route if possible.

Call volume was up this week, with a couple of calls standing out.

This week, our East Station responded to a motor vehicle accident that required a scene flight from our friends at Air Evac. We would like to thank Air Evac Lifeteam 46 - Evansville, IN and AMR - Owensboro, KY for the excellent teamwork and communication that led to the highest quality of patient care and the quickest transport possible for our patient.

Later in the week, we requested assistance from multiple agencies at a large fire. We would like to thank St. Joseph Fire Department, Airport Sorgho Fire Department, Moseleyville Fire Department, Beech Grove Fire Department, and the members of ALIRT (Advanced Large Incident Response Team) for assisting in bringing the fire pictured below under control.

Mutual aid is a cornerstone of the fire service, and we appreciate all of those who were requested and answered the call.

Training this week covered a broad range of topics. Second Crew East got some reps in on forcible entry using a training door provided by Thruston-Philpot Fire Department, while Third Crew East trained our new firefighters on pump operations. Repeated training on these topics is how firefighters stay prepared when the real emergency shows up!

Another busy week is in the books. We appreciate our crews, mutual-aid partners, and community for their continued support! We’ll continue training, responding, and preparing to serve when called.

This week, the Daviess County Fire Department has had the opportunity to host firefighters from Olomouc, Czech Republic, as part of an international firefighter exchange program.

Yesterday, they got an inside look at a portion of the active shooter training Daviess County Fire Department and the Daviess County Sheriff's Office take part in. They were able to see our Rescue Task Force in action and learn more about how our teams work together during these types of emergencies.

Unfortunately, you can’t trust everyone… and you can’t trust every charger either…

For Fire Prevention Week, we’re talking safe charging. While a trust fall might work out for some people, taking a chance on the wrong charger could have a very different ending.
