Last month, I celebrated my one year anniversary as Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County. Looking back, it is hard to believe how much has happened in such a short amount of time. When I accepted this position, I was not only starting a new job, I was starting a new chapter in my life. After experiencing a significant loss in my family in 2024, I knew we needed a fresh start and a change. Having grown up in Owensboro, there was no better place I could think of to comeback after being away for almost 30 years. From the moment I unpacked my U Haul, this community welcomed my family with open arms, and I will always be grateful for the kindness and support we have received.

Although I had spent more than 20 years working in the nonprofit world, construction was completely new to me. I jumped right in and have learned something new every day. I truly could not have asked for a better work family. From our amazing staff to our board members, committee members, construction volunteers, and everyone who supports Habitat, I have felt encouraged and supported every step of the way.

I was fortunate to step into an organization that was already in an incredible place thanks to the leadership of our former Executive Director, Jeremy Stephens. With Carter Community Court underway and the vision for what would become Clemmie Wolf Commons already beginning, there was so much exciting work ahead. Building 25 homes over three years is no small undertaking, and while there have been long days and challenges, every moment has been worth it.

When asked what my favorite part of this past year has been, I did not have to think twice. It has been getting to know our future homeowners and their families. Watching their dedication, hard work, and commitment to achieving homeownership has been truly inspiring. There is nothing I enjoy more than standing beside them at a home dedication and placing the keys to their new home in their hands. Those moments remind me exactly why we do what we do.

This first year has challenged me, stretched me, and taught me so much. It has also been one of the most rewarding years of my career. Thank you to everyone who has supported Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County and who has welcomed and encouraged me personally. Your support means more than you know.

I am incredibly excited about what lies ahead, and I cannot wait to see all that we will accomplish together in the year ahead.

Here’s to an incredible first year and all that is still to come,
Amanda

What may look like a pile of lumber to most people is something much bigger to us.

This is the wall package for the 10th and final home in Carter Community Court. Every board in this stack will soon become the walls of a home where another local family will build their future.

This house marks the completion of a vision that has grown into a neighborhood of 10 Habitat homes and 10 families achieving the dream of homeownership.

We can't wait to raise these walls and welcome the final family to Carter Community Court!

Help us wish the cutest member of the Habitat family a very Happy 11th Birthday!

Cooper may not be our hardest-working volunteer, but he's definitely our cutest. As our Construction Manager Chris's loyal sidekick, Cooper is always happy to stop by the job site for pets, treats, and plenty of attention.

Happy 11th Birthday, Cooper! We hope your day is filled with belly rubs, tennis balls, and lots of treats!
