Mesoscale Discussion 0934
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0930 AM CDT Mon Jun 01 2026

Areas affected...western/middle Tennessee...northern
Mississippi...northern Alabama

Concerning...Severe potential...Severe Thunderstorm Watch likely

Valid 011430Z - 011630Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent

SUMMARY...Damaging wind risk to increase through the late
morning/early afternoon.

DISCUSSION...A cluster of storms continues to move south and east
into western Tennessee, with occasional taller echo tops and
lightning activity steadily increasing over the last hour. To the
south, a hot and very unstable air mass is in place with
temperatures in the low to mid 80s across southern TN into northern
MS. Though flow is generally weak, forecast soundings indicate
steepening low-level lapse rates are expected across much of the
region. As the storms continue into the better air mass to the
south, will support potential for increasing damaging wind threat
downstream through the afternoon. A watch will likely be needed
soon.

Models I ran this morning show high instability (upwards of 4k and higher in other areas) in these storms but not a lot of shear so spin-up tornadoes are possible.

Have a way to get alerted if anything happens in your area. If you can see the lightning and hear thunder, it's time to get indoors!

Today marks the anniversary of one of the most sobering days in storm chasing history: the 2013 El Reno Tornado.

What began as another chase day became a tragic reminder that nature always has the final say. The El Reno tornado grew to an astonishing 2.6 miles wide. It is the widest tornado ever documented.

It took the lives of several people, including respected storm researchers and chasers.

As we remember those lost, we also remember the lesson El Reno taught the weather community: respect the storm, trust your training, and never underestimate the unexpected.

For those of us who chase, spot, forecast, and study severe weather, El Reno remains a reminder that every radar scan, forecast, and decision in the field matters.

Gone, but not forgotten.

Happy Wild Weather Wednesday everyone! Are you wearing shorts today or a winter coat?

Throughout the United States, mother nature appears to be experiencing indecisiveness. We are currently navigating a weather roller coaster this week, and it seems as though we are experiencing all four seasons.

In the western United States, temperatures are ranging around 53 degrees, while the central region is experiencing temperatures in the 60s to 70s. The southeast is seeing temperatures in the mid-70s, and the east coast is experiencing temperatures in the 50s.

There are storms present in southern Texas and the east coast, but they are not a cause for concern, as they are only bringing heavy rain and wind. I am interested in learning about the weather conditions in your area, so please feel free to share a picture or comment and let me know how the weather is in your location. Happy Wednesday everyone!

To the nearly 5,000 of you who follow this page…
When my sister Madi Stone and I started Midsouth Squad back in 2023, we never imagined it would become what it is today. I have watched this team grow from just four or five of us into a roster of almost 20 dedicated storm chasers. Along the way, we have shared countless miles, wild storms, endless laughs, and unforgettable memories on the road. To everyone who has followed our page and trusted us when the skies got dark: thank you. Your support turned this passion project into something incredibly real.

Today, I am sharing some bittersweet news. My last day as an official Midsouth Squad member has concluded. Moving forward, I am officially going solo. I am stepping into the next major phase of my life, and I am going all in. Earning my meteorology degree at Mississippi State and reaching my ultimate goal of becoming a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. And it’s time to lock in. Because of that, I am stepping away from running Midsouth Squad permanently. I am not coming back, but I am leaving a massive piece of my heart, and memories with this team. I am leaving the page and the team in incredible hands. Chris Apgar is leading the way now. I know he will do a fantastic job and make myself and the Midsouth team proud. Please give him the exact same amazing support you have always given me. And to the rest of the team, keep us going and keep us proud. Don’t let Midsouth die! Thank you for every chase, every radar update you followed, and every single moment of belief you poured into Madi and me from day one. Keep watching the skies, keep laughing, and always stay safe out there.

Our amazing team:
