The idea to create the St. Joseph Peace Mission for children originated in 1995 following a severe case of abuse and neglect that led to the untimely and tragic homicide of a local four-year old boy, Phillip Strain. The local community, alongside political figures, law enforcement agencies and members within the Catholic community came together to develop an organization to ensure that abused and neglected children within the Owensboro-Daviess county area would always have a safe and nurturing place to call home, if and when needed. It is because of the relentless support shown to us by the community, our passionate staff members, and our dedicated board of directors and leadership team, that the St. Joseph Peace Mission and Yewell Home for Boys continues to thrive each day with great success.
