When you hear about stress, you don't necessarily think of children. However, children can still suffer from it.
Children can experience stress from potty training, family changes, bullying and teasing, and academic stress. The effects of stress on children's health can manifest in a number of ways as listed in the graphic.
The good news is that it only takes ONE nurturing adult to prevent a child from experiencing toxic stress or to help a child overcome the effects that this type of stress can have on their life.
Check out our adorable HANDS cars in your community! If you see us out and about, give us a wave or a beep 💜

What’s one of the best part about HANDS?
That we get to be your support system until your baby is TWO!
This sweet girl is close to 2 and has had a lot of fun with the “big kid” activities!
She is using “Jumping Frogs” 🐸 to promote her physical development such as jumping and squatting and also working on her communication skills with words like “ribbit” and “jump.”
Rubi and Benji are playing pull, pull, pull. It's an activity that supports Benji's curiosity, his relationship with his Mommy, problem solving and fine motor skills! Thank you Rubi and Rafael for sharing sweet Benjamin with us 💜
Sweet Hudson and his momma, Juliana are practicing “Lip Reading”
Lip Reading (with bright lipstick) is a great way to support babies in learning that sounds come from mouths! It also encourages parents to have a conversation with their infants 👶
Seriously, you can talk to your baby about ANYTHING! They don’t care, they just love your voice ❤️
HANDS Academy 2022 🤍
Our staff thoroughly enjoyed the break out sessions and inspiring guest speakers.
Head to Owen County tomorrow for the Monterey Fair and check out the mobile storywalk!
Be sure to check out the mobile StoryWalk this weekend at the Monterey Fair! It will be set up in the park until Monday!
We are so grateful to be attending the HANDS Academy here in Lexington this week 💜
We are eager to connect with other professionals across the state.
Claira is getting ready for our Circle of Fun activity! Circle of Fun provides infants with an opportunity to practice moving their bodies in different ways and also encourages them to explore their natural curiosities.
Addison and her Mommy made a “Touchy Feely” board today 💜 This activity supports Addison’s cognitive development and learning through language and touch….plus it’s FUN!
Check out another one of our HANDS families engaging in a fun activity.
Gabriel is having fun playing “Wake Up” with Mom and Sissy. Wake Up helps little ones learn to wait and use their imagination for pretend play! 🤩
Three Rivers District Health Department and HANDS was well represented today at Sweet Owen Day ❤️
Sunday was "Grandparents Day" and HANDS would like to thank all grandparents who have helped shape the lives of our children. The world is a better place because you are in it!
Happy Grandparents Day! Thank you to the grandparents who support your grandchildren and make memories with them!

It's been a while since we have introduced our staff! Arielle is an Ongoing Home Visitor, Parent Visitor and Quarterly Home Visitor.
Arielle earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Northern Kentucky University in 2020. She spent two years working for Child Protective Services here in Kentucky as an investigator before joining the TRDHD team. In July 2022, Arielle sought a career in HANDS after she fell in love with the program as a participant. The enriching activities and positive work was just what she had been looking for in a job.
Arielle enjoys going to the gym and camping with her husband and daughter. She is excited to visit and help support you and your family as you learn and watch your child grow and develop.
Call the Gallatin County Health Center at 859-567-2844 to speak with Arielle about HANDS or reach out by email at: [email protected]
We are happy to have you, Arielle!
Pulling colors is a great activity to support toddlers in recognizing and labeling colors along with getting to use their fine motor skills.
As you can see from the video, Elijah is working so hard on labeling the colors.
We have some smart little ones! ❤️
Octavia loving her sock buddy 🥰
Our sock buddy activity helps children learn self-regulation skills. It provides them with a comfort object to use when they’re upset to help settle down or to feel secure when fearful!
Pendleton County HANDS staff enjoying their weekend together preparing for Fall 🎃🍁🎨👨🎨
The Owen County Community Baby shower is one month away! Call today to register for this amazing event. 💜
Here we have Kolten, another one of our recent graduates! Their favorite part about HANDS was “having visits with Tonya and getting information from the curriculum to help us teach Kolten and to be great parents.” 🤍
Congratulations, Kolten. We are very proud of you!

Look how much fun Eastland is having with our activity- Tunnels and Tubes! Eastland and his Mama are working on words like “IN” and “OUT!” This activity helps children learn that when something is out of sight, it sometimes reappears! It also is giving Eastland a new tool for problem solving by helping him to look for things that he can’t see. Try this activity out at home and let us know how much your little one enjoyed it 😊
Congratulations to our November winners! We are so thankful for all of our families & we love doing this for you all. Thank you for keeping 75% of your visits with your FSW’s!
Congratulations to our October winners!! Be sure to watch the video all the way through to see if you won! If you did win your FSW will be in contact with you! We are so thankful for all our families and hope you all enjoy this as much as we do! We will be back for another drawing in December 🤩
Check out Weston using his fine motor skills to put the colored balls in and out of the holes! Even though we love structured play time with our HANDS activities, we also really love free play! Did you know that play supports early brain development? Through play, young children learn about the world around them. “Play is the work of childhood” Thank you to Weston’s Mom for sharing!
Here we have an (almost) 10 month old doing our “Grip 3” activity. This activity connects to our Character Builders skill. Mom and Dad (and siblings) were able to help him feel capable by giving him an opportunity to use his problem-solving skills as he practices picking up objects. Not to mention, this can be done anytime and anywhere! You just need 3 different safe objects with handles. Look how proud he is once he is praised! Way to go, buddy. We are so proud!
